  12. VirNet was started in February 1991 by Mikael Larsson, and is a network of
  13. Bulletin Board Systems (BBS).
  14.  
  15. VirNet is an newstarted network, and it maybe will take some time before
  16. the network has grown-up. But for the moment VirNet is expanding into 1
  17. more region, Belgium. But wants to expand into MORE regions!
  18.  
  19. This network is specialized on distributing information about viruses,
  20. worms, trojans etc etc. VirNet is the FIRST and probably ONLY network
  21. specialized on Virus/Antivirus, therefore VirNet is unique.

  23. In VirNet there are both message- and file-echos. File-Echos are distributed
  24. from Sweden and contains new updates of program, such as the McAfee Associates
  25. program ViruScan, Clean-Up, Vshield, Vcopy, Fshield, NetScan and Sentry.
  26. There will also be other programs sent by this file-echo. Files that is
  27. new and intresting.

  29. There is ONE File-Echo that *EVERY* member of VirNet must join, this echo
  30. is the filedistributing echo for the nodelist, echolists, policy etc etc..

  32. About message echos, for the moment is there about 5-7 Swedish echos and
  33. 3 English (International) echos. Every NET in VirNet MUST have an own
  34. net-echo. Also every region MUST have an own region-echo for sysops only.

  36. VirNet is a free network that allows private nodes, but VirNet does NOT
  37. allow points. Everyone with a mailer program is welcome to join us, but
  38. they should be able to pickup mail every night.

  40. VirNet messages and files should be packed with Phil Katz' PkZip, because
  41. this is our standard packing program.

  43. Region number is based on the country code to the country the region is
  44. located in; Example     Sweden - Region 46, UK - Region 44
  45. But for countrys with just ONE digit in the countrycode (as USA) we will
  46. reverse the countrycode and put a Zero at the end; Example  USA - Region 10
  47.  
  48. Netnumbers are based on the region number, the first net in Sweden is
  49. called 9:461, second 9:462.. Therefore there could only be 9 nets in
  50. echo region.
