  1. TESTCOM Serial Tester V.1.2 (DOS)

  4. TESTCOM can measure the performance of any
  5. asynchronous serial links, such as:
  6.  
  7. - serial port adapters
  8. - modem links
  9. - serial ISDN adapter links
  10. - system performance bottelnecks
  11.  
  12. This gives you a tool, to optimize serial communications
  13. throughput AND connect time charges or to localize sources
  14. of bottlenecks or communications errors. TESTCOM doesn't
  15. find the errors itself, it just gives you the tool you
  16. need to localize them or to measure the maximum speed.
  17.  
  18. The only thing you need to use TESTCOM is the
  19. file TESTCOM.EXE, a serial link and/or a loop connector.
  20.  
  21. The quickest way to do something meaningful with
  22. TESTCOM is the following:
  23. Take an isolated wire and short the transmit line TxD to RxD
  24. and the flow control line RTS to CTS at your PC's com port.
  25. On 9-pin connectors this is pin 2-3 and 7-8. On 25-pin
  26. connectors it is pin 2-3 and 4-5. Now run TESTCOM:

  28. TESTCOM (with no parameter, to see a short help screen)
  29. TESTCOM 115200 COM1 (to test COM1 at default IRQ4)
  30.  
  31. This measures the maximum full duplex performance of your
  32. serial port in the given environement. It is
  33. calculated in characters received per seconds (cps).
  34. TESTCOM is very fast. It can run at more than 30'000 cps
  35. on a 486DX/50 in full duplex mode.

  37. This is only one simple application of TESTCOM, there
  38. are many more things you can test with TESTCOM.
  39.  
  40. TESTCOM will not run on XT. It is a 80186 compiled version
  41. and runs on 286 CPUs or better. A 486 version is available.
  42. A german version is also available.
  43.  
  44. The V.24 (RS232) interface is a platform independent 
  45. international standard. This saves your investments into 
  46. communications equipements. Serial ports will therefore
  47. continue to be important interfaces in the next years.

  49. If you plan to use this software, you must read the Textfile
  50. REGISTER.TXT and agree to the licensing conditions indicated
  51. in the file LICENCE.TXT.

  53. New versions of TESTCOM are available on CompuServe for retrieval
  54. in Lib 2 (Comm Utilities) of the PC communications forum
  55. (GO PCCOM). Online registration is also possible:
