  2.    UltraSoft AHRA Pro Drags is a full, graphically animated, Interactive, 
  3.    Online Door Game, unlike most traditional Door Games. It requires input 
  4.    from the player at different stages during racing action for control.. 
  5.    
  6.    It is important to NOT hold keys down! Use only a brief <tap>, since 
  7.    the Modem Buffer stores multiple keystrokes and sends them out as soon 
  8.    as it has an opportunity. The effect of holding a key down, is similar 
  9.    to tapping a key over and over, many times. The Game can overcome some
  10.    of this, but not all, if it is done in excess.

  12.    UltraSoft AHRA Pro Drags is played by first indicating the Name of the
  13.    dragster Driver you wish to be and whether or not your Comm Program can
  14.    process Online Sound Effects.

  16.    Once your Driver has been defined and you are inside the game, you will
  17.    normally begin by <B>ooking a DragRace using the <B> option from the
  18.    game Menu. ProDrags will present a list of possible opponents for you
  19.    to challenge. You may pick any of those listed. However, it is not really
  20.    advisable (event though the purses are higher), to pick too far above
  21.    your own ranking, since your odds of winning will surely be lower the 
  22.    higher you choose. On the challenger list, other human drivers are shown 
  23.    in white and computer controlled drivers are shown in black. Make your
  24.    selection by the desired RANK Number, shown to the left.

  26.    Once this is done, the race will begin. Follow the Light Strip on the
  27.    right side of your screen, until it reaches the bottom and turns green.
  28.    Then give it all your car has. Use <ENTER> to begin the race when the
  29.    lights turn green, but be sure NOT to hold the <ENTER> key down. It is 
  30.    also used for shifting gears, once the race has begun. If you jump the
  31.    gun, you will be assessed a fine from the AHRA and the race will be 
  32.    started again. If you start too late, your chances of catching up, and 
  33.    winning, are quite slim.

  35.    While racing, note your Digital RPM guage and shift gears when you feel 
  36.    the time is right, by TAPPING <ENTER>. But again, do not hold it down, 
  37.    or you will shift through all the gears almost immediately, and either 
  38.    blow your engine or at least lose the race. If you gain too many RPM's, 
  39.    it is also possible that either your engine will blow, or you will begin 
  40.    to lose ground. This is because your engine has a maximum RPM torque 
  41.    point. If you go beyond that, performance suffers and/or internal engine 
  42.    damage may occur, requiring repairs or even a new engine. But you MUST 
  43.    rev the engine somewhere pretty close to this torque point before 
  44.    shifting, to get the maximum forward thrust from your car.

  46.    After 1/4 mile, the parachutes come out, the race winner will be shown 
  47.    and the Scores are updated.

  49.    The <E>ngines and enhancements Menu option allows you to purchase many
  50.    items to enhance the performance of your dragster. These items are 
  51.    somewhat expensive, but we buy them at the lowest possible price to 
  52.    still provide the highest quality available. When you have earned enough
  53.    money, feel free to purchase these items as you feel the need arises.

  55.    <S>ound ON/OFF activates Online Sound Effects, so you may turn them
  56.    off and on as you choose. If your Comm Program can not process Online
  57.    Sound and several cannot, then you will see lines of JUNK on your screen
  58.    and should Toggle Sound off.

  60.    The <I>nstructions Menu options shows this Help information, and <Q>uit
  61.    racing today, takes you back to the BBS.

  63.    <L>ist Driver Rankings will display a full list of the existing players
  64.    who have not retired or been forcably retired, including Human players
  65.    and Computer controlled players, their World Ranking and their WINS 
  66.    LOSSES and DRAWS.

  68.    <V>iew Drag History gives a race by race account of the history of the
  69.    game, who has won or lost and any other significant occurances, and when
  70.    they happened. This is displayed in Reverse Order, so to get the latest
  71.    data, you need only show a page or two.

  73.    The <L>ist Driver Rankings and the <V>iew Drag History are quite helpful
  74.    in planning your future drag racing strategies.

  76.    <R>etire, of course, will remove your Player completely from the roster
  77.    and allow you to begin again or quit the game altogether.

  79.    If you do not have much success as a Driver, there are often a variety
  80.    of jobs available around the Drag Strip, such as Mechanics, Crew Members,
  81.    Auto Body Repairmen, Tire Changers and the like. Perhaps one of these
  82.    occupations would fit you better than constantly risking life and limb,
  83.    and for what?? For Money?? Will they put your name in the history books? 
  84.    Not too likely!

  86.    So don't feel ashamed if being a famous dragster driver is just not 
  87.    what you were cut out to be.. Well.. maybe a little ashamed, but after
  88.    all, you DID give it your best shot.. Right?   Hey! What more could 
  89.    they ask from you? You're only human, after all..
