- Introduction
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is the player editor for The Pit v4.x. Use this program to edit
- the possessions and other information of any player in the game.
-
- Multiline Use
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- We recommend that you do not attempt to edit users while someone is
- playing the game. This can have an adverse effect on the data files,
- and might actually cause unrepairable damage to the game files.
-
- Program Layout
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Use the standard control keys (Arrows, Pg Up, Pg Down) to move to the
- item you wish to change and press Enter. The area will be
- highlighted while you're working on it. When you're done, just press
- ESC.

- LIST OF PLAYERS TO EDIT
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- When you initially enter the program, a complete player listing is
- displayed. You can scroll through this list editing or deleting any
- player you wish.
-
- Occasionally you may encounter a corrupted player account. The only
- way to repair this damage is to delete the account from the player
- list.
-
-
- EDITING PLAYER INFORMATION
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This section provides you with a given player's information. You can
- edit anything listed.
-
- Notice that items such as weapons and magic items are dependent upon
- the GAME FILE setting in the CONTROL program. These items will differ
- depending on which set of game files you are utilizing. More detailed
- information on each item follows.
-
- 1. BBS Player Account Information
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is the truncated real name of the user on the BBS system. This
- account information is here primarily for reference only. There is no
- need to edit it since it performs no function. It only exists so that
- you know which user you are editing.
-
- 2. Game Alias
- ~~~~~~~~~~
- This item is the name that the player is known as in the game. Both
- you and the player can easily edit this information. You can edit it
- from this program, and the player can edit it from the options menu
- of THE PIT.
-
- 3. Condition
- ~~~~~~~~~
- A. PLAYER IS DEAD
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This condition normally occurs only after the player has been
- defeated in the CHALLENGE section of THE PIT. A player is
- never truly dead even after losing a battle in the ARENA. The
- healers always slightly heal the player at the end of each
- losing battle.
-
- However, when a player leaves the game, another opposing
- player can challenge them while they are not in the game and
- defeat them. This results in their status being set to
- "DEAD".
-
- B. PLAYER IS ALIVE
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is the default setting for the player when they enter
- the game. The player is considered alive and well.
-
-
- 4
-
-
-
-
- C. PLAYER HAS A BATTLE PENDING
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This condition occurs when the player has either hung up or
- has run out of time when in the middle of a battle with ARENA
- ENEMIES. The enemies were powerful enough to require the game
- to be saved for continuation. The next time the player enters
- the game the battle will continue right where it left off.
-
- D. PLAYER IS BEING CHALLENGED
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The player's data file is being used to represent an opponent
- that another player is online battling in the ARENA. The
- affected player cannot enter THE PIT until the battle has
- been completed.
-
- E. PLAYER IS ONLINE
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The player's multiline status is listed as being online. It
- will change to "PLAYER IS ALIVE" when the player leaves the
- game.
-
- 4. Level
- ~~~~~
- A player's level of skill can be edited to any number from 1 to 499.
- Editing this value may affect the value of the SCORE and the TOTAL
- HEALTH of the player.
-
- 5. Score
- ~~~~~
- A player's score can effect their level and health. The number has
- its effect based on a chart listed below. The score can range from 0
- to 49,063,999.
-
- LEVEL SCORE
- ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- 1 0 - 249
- 2 250 - 499
- 3 500 - 999
- 4 1,000 - 1,999
- 5 2,000 - 3,999
- 6 4,000 - 7,999
- 7 8,000 - 15,999
- 8 16,000 - 31,999
- 9 32,000 - 63,999
- 10 64,000 - 163,999
- +1 Level +100,000
-
- 6. Health
- ~~~~~~
- A player's health is controlled by their level. A player can never
- have a TOTAL HEALTH value less than their LEVEL. And the maximum
- HEALTH can never exceed 10 times their level. The player's CURRENT
- HEALTH can range from 0 to the TOTAL HEALTH of the player.
-
-
-

-
-
-
-
- 7. Hand Weapon
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
- Selecting this option will pop up a scrollable list of hand weapons
- to choose from. Simply press enter on the weapon you want this player
- to own.
-
- 8. Range Weapon
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Selecting this option will pop up a scrollable list of range weapons
- to choose from. Just press enter on the weapon you wish this player
- to have.
-
- 9. Projectiles
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
- This selection is dependent upon the type of range weapon you choose
- for this player to have. The number of projectiles can never exceed
- 999.
-
- 10. Armor
- ~~~~~
- Selecting this option pops up a scrollable list of armors. Choose
- which one you wish the player to own.
-
- 11. Magic/Technology
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Selecting this option allows you to toggle on or off the possession
- of specific magical/technical items. A scrollable list is displayed
- and pressing <ENTER> will toggle the selection as owned or not owned.
-
- 12. Wins/Losses
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
- These numbers represent the wins and losses the player has
- experienced while playing the game. They have little effect other
- than to demonstrate the fighting efficiency of the player. They are
- used to determine the rank of a player if any scores match.
-
- 13. Wealth
- ~~~~~~
- These numbers represent the total wealth of the player. The player
- has money in their hand as well as in the bank. Neither number can
- exceed 99,999,999 monetary units.
-
- 14. Attack Phrase
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is the attack phrase of the player. When an opponent fights the
- player in combat this information will be displayed to them.
-
- 15. Losing Phrase
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is the losing phrase of the player. When an opponent defeats the
- player in combat this information will be displayed to them.
-
-
-
-
-
- 6
-
-
-
-
- 16. System Status
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This section will turn on or off specific flags that affect the
- player.
-
- A. Player is Poisoned
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If this flag is on, the player will lose one point of health
- for every move they make in the ARENA. It can be cured in the
- HEALING SHOP in THE PIT.
-
- B. Player is Diseased
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If this flag is on, the player will lose an additional point
- of health for every move made in the ARENA. It can be cured
- in the HEALING SHOP.
-
- C. Player is Blind
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Blindness results in the player being unable to see the exit
- from the ARENA as well as all enemies. This is a tough
- disadvantage to compensate for. It can be healed in the
- HEALING SHOP.
-
- D. Hang Up Penalty Active
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is an individual flag the sysop can set to result in a
- player being PENALIZED for hanging up in THE PIT. This flag
- being turned on will result in a penalty if the GLOBAL HANG
- UP PENALTY FLAG is OFF (See Control.exe). This allows you to
- individually control the penalty. Some rather hateful users
- might require this action to prevent cheating.
-
- 17. Optional Settings
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- These are the settings that effect what the player sees and controls
- on their remote end.
-
- A. Color Monitor
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The user either has a color or non-color screen.
-
- B. BBS Music
- ~~~~~~~~~
- If this is on, then ANSI MUSIC is sent to the remote user
- when they are playing in ANSI mode.
-
- ANSI MUSIC is used by both TELEMATE and QMODEM. It is
- somewhat similar to ANSI COLOR codes, but produces musical
- notes instead.
-
- C. Adlib/Snd Blaster Music
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If this is on, the remote PIT Terminal user is utilizing
- their ADLIB or SOUND BLASTER cards to listen to music.
-
- 7
-
-
-
-
- D. Sound Effects
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If this is on, the remote PIT Terminal user is using their
- sound card or pc speaker to hear sound effects.
-
- E. Status WIndow After Win
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If this flag is on, a status window will display the items
- won after each enemy is defeated. This option allows slower
- users (2400 baud or less) to avoid getting a pop-up status
- window after each win.
-
- F. Menus Displayed
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- There are three types of menu modes; NONE, Regular ANSI, and
- Super ANSI.
-
- "NONE" displays no menus at all.
-
- "Regular ANSI" was designed for slower users (2400 baud or
- less) so that the menu display time could be reduced. Single
- color menus are displayed and require only minimal ANSI code
- inclusion to display.
-
- "Super ANSI" is the default setting. This displays colorful
- menus and makes the game more eye-appealing. Fast modem users
- are not usually bothered by the additional ANSI code required
- to acheive this effect.
-
- G. Mouse
- ~~~~~
- When this flag is turned on, the remote Pit Terminal user
- wishes to use their mouse to play THE PIT.
-
- H. Joystick
- ~~~~~~~~
- When this flag is turned on, the remote PIT Terminal user
- goes through a joystick calibation process and then is
- allowed to use the joystick to fight in the ARENA.
-
- 18. Date/Time Settings
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This section displays the date the player was last in THE PIT.
-
- The only editable feature is the player's Time Left. This value
- represents how much time the user has left in the game today. Notice
- that the value resets itself, when the user plays daily, to either
- the callers time left on the BBS or the "Max Time In Game" (See
- Control.exe), whichever is smallest.
