- --------------
-
- To install the Eudora, EudoraWeb, and Conduit for Eudora Internet
- Suite applications (if you haven't already):
-
- 1a. Windows Downloaded installer - After downloading the installer
- simply run it and follow the instructions. You may choose which
- components to install. The PalmOS applications will automatically
- be set up for install on your next Hotsync.
-
- 1b. Macintosh Downloaded Installer - Open the .sit file. Select each
- of the .prc files you wish to install as you would install any
- .prc file. There is no conduit software for the Macintosh.
-
- 1c. Windows CDROM -- If the installer did not work automatically when
- you inserted the CD or you downloaded it from the Internet, click on
- the file 2.0b10.exe and follow the screen instructions. Note that
- the conduit installation is optional.
-
- 1d. Macintosh CDROM -- If the installer did not work automatically when
- you inserted the CD or you downloaded it from the Internet, click on
- the installer and follow the screen instructions.
-
-
- 2. From your Palm device, run a HotSync operation. The Eudora and
- EudoraWeb applications will transfer from your desktop computer to
- your Palm device.
-
-
- --------------------
- Installation Issues
- --------------------
-
- - If you are a Windows Eudora user an item for configuring Eudora
- Hotsync will show up in your tool bar, but you may have to restart
- Windows Eudora for this to occur.
-
-
- ---------------------

-
-
- ---------------
- Eudora Issues
- ---------------
- - Default domain setting affect the envelope, not the headers.
- Mail will be sent to the correct address, but the To:/Cc: field
- will not show correctly.
-
- - Send failures may not be indicated in mail check/send result
- report. They will be noted in the Out mailbox though.
-
- - When composing messages with long addresses, the address is
- not displayed well. Tap on To: or Cc: to see full addresses.
-
- - Some text entry hacks don't work with message composition.
-
- - Up/Down buttons don't work in add to addresses screen.
-
- - Filter changes unrelated to downloading cause refiltering of
- all messages on server.
-
- - Delete messages on server when fully retrieved deletes after a
- mail check or two. It could delete sooner.
-
- - If you configure filters in 2.0 and then switch back to 1.1
- none of the filters configured in 2.0 will be recognized. Basically
- there is forward, but not backward filter compatibility.
-
- - Message received via beaming are not displayed in the In mailbox
- right away. You have to go to message view and back or such
- to get it to update.
-
-
- -------------------------
- EudoraWeb 2.0 Features
- -------------------------
-
- Supports a subset of HTML 3.2 features.
-
- Includes the following text mark-up capabilities:
-
- - Text is shown in two different sizes: bold
- and regular forms of each, and underlining.
-

-
- - Draws italic text with a dashed underline.
-

-
- - Does not display images.
-
- - Displays alternative text, when provided.
-
- - Frames are not fully supported, but
- you can view one frame at a time.
-
- - Supports HTML forms, with the exception
- of the TYPE=FILE INPUT field (TYPE=IMAGE acts
- as a submit button). Multiple-choice SELECT fields
- are represented as separator checkboxes.
-
- - Supports character entities and numeric references
- for the entire PalmOS character set, including Unicode
- numeric references for non-ISO8859 characters
- (e.g.: • = • = bullet character).
-
- - Does not support tables, scripts, and style sheets.
-
- - Supports some miscellaneous browser features including:
- HTTP basic authentication, cookies, redirection,
- and refresh (timed refresh not supported).
-
- - Beaming bookmarks is supported
-
- - "mailto:..." URLs will launch Eudora.
-
-
- ------------
- Cache size
- ------------
-
- Copies of EudoraWeb pages are kept locally in order to speed
- operation. By default, up to 300K of the device's memory is used for
- this cache. However, you can limit the amount of storage used by the
- cache by entering a different value in the application's preferences
- dialog box. Just choose PREFERENCES from the OPTIONS menu.
-
-
- ------------------
- EudoraWeb Issues
- ------------------
-
- - You cannot enter text into a form field until the document has
- finished loading.
-
- - If you tap to get a menu before a page is loaded from cache
- the browser will be stuck. You have to leave and reenter
- the browser to get back.
-
- - Named anchors without any text between the destination
- anchor tags will not work. [<A NAME="dest"></A>]. Often
- used to link within a page.
-
- - Color support is incomplete; no support for color tags
- in the <body> tag such as link and background color.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------
- Using Infrared With Eudora Internet Suite Applications
- ------------------------------------------------------
-
- If you are using PalmOS(TM) older than version 3.3, you will have
- trouble using Eudora Internet Suite with TCP/IP connections over
- Infrared (IR). We recommend that you upgrade to Palm OS(TM) 3.3 that
- fixes this issue. Palm OS 3.3 is available from Palm Computing's web
- site at http://www.palm.com/support/downloads
-
- There is a known problem with PalmOS(TM) 3.1 such that receiving
- an application via an IR beam when the launcher is running
- will cause any existing databases associated with the
- application on the receiving device to be deleted. Thus
- if you are running PalmOS(TM) 3.1 and are receiving Eudora or
- EudoraWeb be sure the launcher is not active.
-
- --------------------------------
- Eudora Mail Conduit Features
- --------------------------------
- - Synchronizes Eudora on Palm Computing platform with desktop
- mailers such as Windows Eudora(R) and Outlook.
-
- - Supports all features of Eudora for the Palm Computing platform.
-
- - Filters synchronized messages.
-
- - Controls the number of messages, and the size of each message
- synchronized. This allows you to sync small number of
- messages to your Palm even if you have hundreds in your
- In mailbox on your desktop.
-
- - Sends outgoing mail via desktop mailers.
-
- - Provides full and efficient backup and auto-restore of download
- via POP3 server.
-
-
- Note that we do not yet support the following:
-
- - Syncing for Macintosh Eudora. This is a planned feature.
-
- - Syncing the Eudora address book with the Palm address book. This
- is also a planned feature.
-
- - Syncing mailboxes other than than In, which is also a planned feature.
-
-
-
- ---------------
- Modes Supported
- ---------------
- Two modes are supported:
-
- * Backup mode -- In this mode messages in Eudora on your Palm
- organizer that you retrieved directly from the server are
- backed up on your PC. If all data on your Palm organizer is
- erased (e.g., the batteries are left out) your messages will
- automatically be restored on the next Hotsync(R) operation.
- This mode is recommended if you retrieve your mail directly
- from the server via a modem over the network. You can also
- force a restore.
-
- * Desktop client sync mode -- In this mode messages are synchronized
- between Eudora on your Palm organizer and your desktop mail
- client (e.g., Windows Eudora (R) or Outlook). This is an alternate
- way to get new messages onto your Palm organizer. Mail that you compose
- on your Palm organizer is also sent via your desktop mail client.
- See below for a list of desktop mail clients that work with
- the Eudora mail conduit.
-
- You can also disable the conduit without uninstalling it by
- selecting the "do nothing" mode. See the full Eudora and conduit
- documentation in the Eudora Internet Suite User Guide for greater detail.
-
-
- -------------------------------
- General Eudora Mail Issues
- ------------------------------
-
- - If you've recently changed the date on your Palm device and you've
- had the Eudora Mail Conduit configured to "do nothing" you may have
- trouble getting it to switch out of "do nothing". To remedy this,
- first change the Hotsync configuration in Eudora on your Palm to
- "Synch with...", then also and before Hotsyncing, change your
- configuration on your desktop. Note that you should do this from
- the "Custom" menu found when clicking on the Hotsync manager
- in the system tray.
-
- - With Windows Eudora the tool bar icon to access the conduit
- configuration may not show up. Restarting Eudora may help.
- The conduit configuration is always available from the Palm
- Hotsync manager found in the Windows System tray.
-
- - Sending a message with a comma in the full name part of the
- address will fail. For example, "Smith, Joe" <jsmith>.
- The solution is to remove the comma.
-
- - Reply-To headers are not handled by the Eudora Mail Conduit.
- This is a limitation of simple MAPI.
-
-
- -------------------------------------
- Eudora Mail Conduit Compatibility
- -------------------------------------
-
- -------------------------
- OS Version Compatibility:
- -------------------------
- * Windows NT
-
- * Windows 95
-
- * Windows 98
-
- * Windows 2000
-
- * Windows ME
-
-
- ----------------------------------
- Palm Desktop Version Compatibility
- ----------------------------------
-
- * Palm Desktop 3.0, 3.1
-
- * Palm Desktop 2.X
-
-
- ---------------------------------
- Mail Client Version Compatibility
- ---------------------------------
- * Windows Eudora 4.3.2 and higher
- - There is no fee or registration required to use Eudora Internet Suite
- with Eudora 4.3.2 or higher (see section on registration below).
- Windows Eudora 4.3.2 also addresses a large number of significant
- issues.
-
- * Windows Eudora Pro 4.3 and 4.3.1
- - In certain cases misaddressed mail will cause a Hotsync
- operation to fail if Windows Eudora "Immediate Send" is set in
- the Sending Mail options. To avoid this, disable it under
- Tools/Options/Sending Mail
-
- * Windows Eudora Pro 4.2 and older
- - Synchronization with Eudora 4.2 is possible, however upgrading
- to Eudora 4.3.2 or 5.0 is recommended as a significant number of
- issues have been addressed.
-
- * Windows Eudora 4.0 and older
- - Upgrading to the most recent version of Eudora is highly
- recommended.
-
- * Outlook Express
- - A queued message with a faulty email address previously
- composed or synchronized can cause a send error to pop on
- each HotSync operation.
-
- * Outlook 98
- - When Outlook 98 is installed along with Outlook Express
- on the same machine, MAPI gets messages from
- Outlook Express even if the conduit is trying to read
- messages from Outlook 98.
-
- - Sometimes a read error can occur during the HotSync process
- because of MIME incompatibility issues. To avoid this move
- Inbox messages whose attachments cannot be opened on
- Outlook 98 to a different folder.
-
- - Certain messages with bold, underlining, etc. will not display
- properly or at all. In particular these are messages in the
- text/enriched format. HTML e-mail works fine.
-
- * Exchange server with Outlook 98 as client
- - For MAPI options to be available, be sure to install
- Outlook 98 with Corporate or Workgroup as the
- Email Service Options.
-
- - Can cause MAPI logon error message to appear during the
- HotSync process if you are not logged on to the network.
-
- * Netscape Communicator - This conduit does not work as of
- Netscape 4.5, though it may work with subsequent versions.
- If you have a more recent version you might try the Generic
- MAPI client configuration.
-
- * AOL -- This conduit does NOT work with AOL
-
- * cc:mail -- This conduit does NOT work with cc:mail
-
- * Pegasus -- This conduit does NOT work with Pegasus
-
- * Lotus Notes -- This conduit does NOT work with Notes
-
- * MS Internet Mail and News -- Unknown
-
-
- --------------------------------------
- Mail, pdQsuite, pdQmail and pdQbrowser
- --------------------------------------
-
- Eudora Internet Suite was previously released as "pdQsuite". Today
- "Eudora" is the new name for "pdQmail" and "EudoraWeb" is the new
- name for "pdQbrowser".
-
- If you purchased a reg code for pdQsuite, or obtained one as
- part of a bundle with another product you may use that regcode
- with Eudora 2.0
-
- Note that the registration modes have changed significantly from
- pdQsuite. pdQsuite had a 30 day demo after which you can purchase
- a reg code. Eudora Internet Suite works with Eudora 4.3.2 or higher
- for free and you only need purchase a reg code if you wish to sync
- with mailers other than Eudora or versions of Eudora older than 4.3.2.
-
- The "Mail" application on your Palm device is provided by Palm.
- Eudora is an alternative to the "Mail" application and provides more
- functionality. In particular with Eudora, you can limit the number of
- messages transfered to your Palm from your PC so you can Hotsync your
- email even if you have a large number of messages on your PC and not
- very much space on your Palm. Note that you should be sure to disable
- Hotsync for the Mail application if you are using Eudora.
-
-
- ---------------------------------------------------
- Purchashing and Registering Eudora Internet Suite
- --------------------------------------------------
-
- Eudora Internet Suite has three registration modes as detailed
- below. Briefly described, Eudora Internet Suite is completely free for
- users of Desktop Eudora 4.3.2 or higher. Desktop Eudora 4.3.2 (which
- also has three modes) must be in either sponsored mode or paid mode.
-
- * Unregistered Mode
- - Allows Hotsync with Eudora 4.3.2 or higher for free
- - Allows retrieval of messages via POP/SMTP with periodic
- prompting to upgrade
- - No registration information is required
-
- * Registered Mode
- - Allows Hotsync with Eudora 4.3.2 or higher for free
- - Allows retrivel of mesages via POP/SMTP
- - You must enter a reg code from Desktop Eudora
-
- * Unlimited Sync Mode
- - Allows Hotsync with any version of Eudora
- - Allows Hotsync with any other supported email software
- - Allows retrieval of messages via POP/SMTP
- - Requires a purchased reg code for Eudora Internet Suite
-
-
-
- -----------------------------------
- Suggestions For Additional Features
