  33. Quick Starter
  34. =============
  35. Open the package into a floppy in either drive A or B, or into a dedicated
  36. directory on the hard drive, preferably C:\IV. Login to the floppy drive, or
  37. into the directory on the HD and run INSTALL/FAST. InVircible will install
  38. itself with the default settings in directory C:\IV. A search path to C:\IV
  39. will be added in the AUTOEXEC as well as the commands IVINIT and IVB DAILY.
  40. InVircible will run these test on subsequent bootings.
  41.  
  42. It is highly recommended to prepare a ResQdiskette immediately after the
  43. installation of InVircible. Insert a formatted floppy (720K/1.2M or 1.44M)
  44. in drive A, go to InVircible's directory and run INSTALL/R. A search path
  45. should exist to the SYS.COM file (usually in the C:\DOS directory).
  46.  
  47. Other than plain / standard configurations: If your computer requires
  48. special drivers in order to recognize a hard drive or partition at boot, or
  49. if you have difficulties in making the rescue diskette then proceed as
  50. follows. Format a bootable floppy in drive A, copy the necessary drivers,
  51. create and edit a CONFIG.SYS file on the floppy, and copy the IV files to
  52. the floppy. Now log to drive A and run INSTALL/R. The following drivers will
  53. be recognized by IV's rescue disk procedure: DoubleSpace, Stacker and Disk
  54. Manager (if present in the config.sys).
  55.  
  56. For quick familiarization run IVMENU and press F1 to open the on-line
  57. hypertext help.
  58.  
  59. Freeware version and Licensing
  60. ==============================
  61. InVircible in its Sentry mode is freeware to the private user, and may be
  62. used at no charge, provided the PC on which InVircible is installed does
  63. not serve for business or profit.
  64.  
  65. The recovery functions of InVircible are NOT available in the Sentry mode
  66. and are enabled only after licensing your copy of the software, or
  67. purchasing a licensed copy. There is one exception, though. The disaster
  68. recovery functions of the InVircible ResQdiskette are fully operational in
  69. the Sentry mode too.
  70.  
  71. The IV Armor (copyright and patent pending) passive protection is enabled
  72. only after licensing your copy of IV.
  73.  
  74. Businesses, corporate, administration and institutional users are accorded
  75. a 30 day "try before you buy" evaluation period. After which they are
  76. requested either to purchase a site license to continue using InVircible,
  77. or remove all copies of InVircible, sentry included, from their computers
  78. and network servers.

  80. Downloading InVircible from the Internet
  81. ========================================
  82. InVircible is regularly uploaded by the author for ftp through the
  83. Internet. The main InVircible site on the Internet for anonymous ftp is
  84. ftp.invircible.com.

  88. The current version is identified in the file name, e.g. INVB601A.ZIP is
  89. version 6.01 revision A.

  91. The manual, in both plain ASCII text and in Windows Word 6 format is
  92. available from the same hosts. Look for IVMANUAL.ZIP.

  97. Compatibility.
  98. ==============
  99. Software: Compatibility problems have been encountered with some 32 bit
  100. access drivers running under DOS. There is no problem with 32 bit access
  101. drivers running under Windows, as InVircible's SeeThru is inhibited when
  102. Windows is running. If not absolutely necessary, then don't run a 32 bit
  103. driver in the config.sys.
  104.  
  105. Hardware: LBA (logical block access), if used on small capacity IDE
  106. drives that do not require LBA, will cause erroneous messages in IV. LBA
  107. should be used only on large capacity IDE that support that mode. There
  108. may also exist a compatibility problem with few 32 bit hard drive
  109. controllers.
