Configuration Options Help 1 of 3
Use ATPSCON to configure ATPS.NLM. This module enables Macintosh users to print to NetWare print queues, and non-Macintosh users to send jobs to printers on an AppleTalk network. The main menu contains these options:
Quick Configuration
Use this option to set up a NetWare print queue for Macintosh users printing to an AppleTalk printer. When you use this option, ATPSCON creates a default spooler and queue for a selected AppleTalk printer.
Configure Printer Servers
Use this option to configure an ATPS printer server to service NetWare print queues.
<Esc>=Exit Help <PgDn>=Next
Configuration Options Help 2 of 3
Configure Spoolers
Use this option to configure an ATPS spooler. A spooler receives print jobs from a Macintosh user and sends them to its associated NetWare queue. Spooler names appear in the Macintosh Chooser; queue names do not. Therefore, a queue must have a spooler for Macintosh users to access it.
Define Printer Models
Use this option to view, create, modify, or delete the printers to which ATPS sends jobs.
Log Options
Use this option to view the system log and printer logs, and to set the level of information that ATPS writes to the system log, the system console, and the ATPS console screen.

Printer Lookup Help Help 1 of 1
Use this window to find available printers on the AppleTalk network.
Select both the model of the printer you want to find and the AppleTalk zone where it is located. Then, select (Perform Lookup). Allow a few seconds to find all the printers.
The list of available printers includes the names of hidden printers.
If no printers respond, you can attempt the lookup again or specify the printer explicitly.
<Esc>=Exit Help
Quick Configuration Help 1 of 1
This option enables you to quickly create a spooler, a print queue, and a printer server. You begin by selecting a printer to service a NetWare print queue. ATPS then creates a spooler and gives it the same name as the printer, with the letters NW added to the beginning of the name. The utility then creates a queue with the same name as the spooler; this queue resides in the current Directory Services context. ATPS uses default values for all other configuration options.
When you indicate that you want to enable the Quick Configuration settings, the spooler, queue, and printer server are available for modification using other ATPSCON options. If you save the configuration as disabled, ATPS saves your settings but does not use them. You can modify your settings and then activate them by enabling the configuration.
<Esc>=Exit Help
Configure Printer Servers Help 1 of 1
Use this option to create, modify, or delete a printer server.
Each printer server has a number associated with it. This number may change when you enter this window. When a printer server name appears with a (-) appended to it, the configuration is disabled. To re-enable a disabled printer server, or to disable an active printer server, highlight its name and press <F3>.
<Esc>=Exit Help
Configure Spoolers Help 1 of 1
Use this option to create, modify, or delete a spooler. You must create a spooler for a Macintosh user to submit a job to a NetWare queue.
When a spooler name appears with a (-) appended to it, the spooler is disabled. To re-enable a disabled spooler, or to disable an active spooler, highlight its name and press <F3>.

Accept Binary Data Help 1 of 2
Use this option to specify whether you want the spooler to accept binary data from Macintosh clients.
Specify Yes if all printers servicing the spooler's queue are connected via AppleTalk or another binary-capable communications channel.
Specify No if any printer servicing the spooler's queue is connected via a serial, parallel, NetWare Remote, or any other non-binary communications channel
<Esc>=Exit Help <PgDn>=Next
Accept Binary Data Help 2 of 2
You may specify Use Binary Encoding to instruct the spooler to encode any binary data in the job using the Adobe Binary Communications Protocol printer (BCP) or the Adobe Tagged Binary Communications Protocol (TBCP). If the printer model you selected supports neither of these protocols, selecting this option is the same as selecting "No". Otherwise, ATPS will encode binary characters in the job using the relevant protocol. Using either of these protocols gives the best result when sending PostScript data over a non-binary communications channel. If you choose this option, make sure all printers that will service the queue support the protocol to be used and are not connected via binary-capable communications channels such as AppleTalk.

Select Printer Model Help 1 of 1
Use this option to define, modify, or delete a printer model.
You can associate a printer model with a spooler or a printer server. The spooler emulates the features and options of the printer model. When you associate a printer model with a printer server, ATPS uses printer model information to communicate correctly with a specific printer.
<Esc>=Exit Help
Select ATPS Directory Help 1 of 1
Use this option to select the directory where printer logs, cached fonts, and other files used internally by ATPS are created and stored. The volume where this directory is located should have sufficient storage capacity to hold these files. The default location for these files is the SYS:SYSTEM\ATPS directory. When you enter a new directory and save your settings, ATPS creates the new directory in the specified location. However, current files remain in the old directory; you should delete or manually copy the files to the new location.
This option creates only the last subdirectory in the path you specify. The parent directories must already exist.
<Esc>=Exit Help
Printer Selection Help Help 1 of 1
Select a printer from the list. If necessary, you can later edit the printer's name in the Printer Server Parameters window. Non-printable characters appear as bullets. A hidden printer appears with the @ character appended to its name.

Printer Log Size Control Help 1 of 1
Use this option to limit the storage space consumed by the printer log that ATPS maintains.
When you specify Delete if Over Limit, ATPS deletes the log file when it reaches the specified limit. When you specify Rename if Over Limit, ATPS renames the log file with an LGB extension when it reaches the specified limit. ATPS saves the information in the file only until the next time the original log file reaches its size limit and is renamed. When you specify None, the log file can grow without limit.
<Esc>=Exit Help
Log Size Limit (KBytes) Help 1 of 1
Specify the size limit in kilobytes for the ATPS printer log file. When the log file reaches the limit you specify, ATPS will delete it or rename it. If you choose to rename the printer log file, the maximum potential storage space used by the log is twice the amount you specify here.

Printer Model Help 1 of 1
Use this option to specify the type of printer that the printer server will send jobs to. This field affects the AppleTalk type of the printer that the printer server will look for, so if you change this field, make sure the resultant "Printer's AppleTalk Type:" field matches the type of the actual printer. If the wrong type is specified, ATPS will be unable to locate the printer.
This field also affects other aspects of printer server behavior. For example, a job page count is available for logging or accounting purposes from printers that support PostScript or PJL, but the number of pages in a job submitted to other kinds of printers cannot be determined. Make sure that the model you select accurately reflects the capabilities of the target printer.

Font Cache Size Control Help 1 of 1
Use this option to set a ceiling on the amount of volume space that can be consumed by PostScript font files saved by ATPS. If one or more spoolers have the "Manage Fonts" advanced PostScript option enabled, *.PSF files will be created in the ATPS directory (default SYS:SYSTEM\ATPS) to store new fonts as they are received. Specify "Yes" for "Font Cache Size Control:" to set a limit on the total volume space taken up by these files. The actual amount of the limit is set in the "Font Cache Size Limit" field below.
<Esc>=Exit Help
View Cached Fonts Help 1 of 1
This option allows the adminstrator to view the contents of the ATPS font cache. Spoolers configured with the "Manage Fonts" advanced PostScript option enabled scan incoming print jobs and save fonts included in them as files in the ATPS directory. These fonts are therafter inserted by ATPS into PostScript print jobs that require them, saving the Macintosh from having to send the font each time it prints.
This portal displays a list of all the fonts that are currently saved by ATPS. The fonts' name and type are displayed, as well as the date when each was captured by ATPS and the disk space in Bytes required to store each. The contents of any font file can be examined, and fonts that are no longed needed or that the administrator wishes to update can be deleted.

Font Cache Size Limit Help 1 of 1
This field becomes enabled if "Yes" is selected for the "Font Cache Size Control" field above. The number entered in this field specifies the maximum size in KiloBytes of font files in the ATPS directory. The default size is 2,048K with an allowable range of 256K to 4,194,300K (approximately 4 GigaBytes).
If ATPS receives new fonts which make the total size of all fonts exceed this limit, the least recently used font files will be deleted to bring the total size under this limit. Set this field to the maximum amount of space you would wish to be consumed by font files on the volume where the ATPS directory (default SYS:SYSTEM\ATPS) is located.
