  14. WHAT IS PLANETWATCH?
  15. PlanetWatch is a reference program that combines animated maps, color
  16. photographs, and planetary information into an easy to use desktop atlas/
  17. simulation of our Solar System.
  18.  
  19. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  20. PlanetWatch Pro requires an IBM compatible 286 or better, running
  21. Windows 3.1, and VGA display. (A 386-33 and SVGA display are recommended)
  22. To install and run properly, a minimum of 2MB of RAM and 1.5MB of hard
  23. disk space is required.

  25. REGISTRATION:
  26. PlanetWatch shareware has not been limited in any manner, there are no time
  27. limitations or nasty "begware" requests.  All I ask is if you like it,
  28. consider ordering the enhanced "Pro" version.  PlanetWatch Pro has a larger
  29. 256 color set of photo images, an enhanced atlas, and you also will receive
  30. a "mini-manual".  Cost is $20 U.S. (includes shipping).

  61. Note: vbrun200.dll may not appear in all distributions of the PlanetWatch
  62. shareware.  Some bbs's will assume you have vbrun200.dll and remove it to
  63. make the distribution smaller.  PlanetWatch will not run without
  64. vbrun200.dll installed.  You should be able to find it from wherever
  65. you downloaded this distribution, ask your sysop if you cannot locate it.

  67. INSTALLATION:
  68. 1) Unzip the PlanetWatch files to a directory called "PLNWCH" on your hard
  69.    drive.
  70. 2) If it you don't already have it, copy the file VBRUN200.DLL to your
  71.    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (if you are on a network you may not have a
  72.    SYSTEM directory in which case you put it in your \WINDOWS directory).
  73.    (do NOT remove any other VBRUNxxx.DLL files you find there!)
  74. 3) If you don't already have it, copy the file THREED.VBX to your
  75.    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (if you are on a network you may not have a
  76.    SYSTEM directory in which case you put it in your \WINDOWS directory).
  77.    If you already have THREED.VBX, check the date on the file - if it is
  78.    older than 7/16/93 please rename it as THREED.BAK and replace it with
  79.    the THREED.VBX distributed in this archive.   
  80.    NOTE: GPF errors can occur with some older versions of THREED.VBX!!
  81. 4) Install the PlanetWatch icon with the Windows Program Manager.  To do
  82.    this, click on the group box you want to put PlanetWatch in. Next select
  83.    "File" from the Windows Program Manager menu, then select "New...".
  84.    Click the button labeled "Program Item" then click the "OK" button.  A
  85.    new dialog box will open, click the "browse" button, use the file dialog
  86.    to find PlanetWatch (if you copied it to your c: drive and used the
  87.    PLNWCH directory I suggested above then your path should be
  88.    "c:\plnwch\plnwch.exe").  When you've located the file "plnwch.exe"
  89.    highlight it and click "OK".  The PlanetWatch icon should now be
  90.    installed in the group box.
  91. 5) Double-click the PlanetWatch icon to start PlanetWatch.

  93. UN-INSTALLING:
  94. Remove the following files from your PlanetWatch directory..
  95. earth.bmp    jupiter.bmp    mars.bmp    mercury.bmp
  96. moon.bmp    neptune.bmp      plnwch.exe    plnwch.hlp
  97. pluto.bmp    readme.txt    saturn.bmp    sun.bmp
  98. uranus.bmp    venus.bmp
  99. Do NOT delete VBRUN200.DLL or THREED.VBX from your \Windows directories!

  101. IN CASE OF PROBLEMS:
  102. If you experience system lockups or other problems when attempting to run
  103. PlanetWatch, check the following:
  104. * Is your CPU a 286 or better?
  105. * Are you using a VGA (or VGA compatible) graphics card?
  106. * Are you using Microsoft Windows 3.1 or better?  The program will run in
  107.   Windows 3.0 but the Help and Atlas will be unavailable. Behavior with
  108.   Windows 95, Windows NT or OS2 is unknown at this time.
  109. * Are you using MSDOS 3.X or later?
  110. * Do you have at least 2mb of RAM memory installed?  4mb or more suggested.
  111. * Is Windows running in either STANDARD or ENHANCED mode? - check the
  112.   Program Manager "About" box (within the Program Manager Help menu) - it
  113.   will display what mode is being run.
  114. * threed.vbx - there are several versions of this vbx out there, some of
  115.   which may be incompatible with PlanetWatch and other programs. If you
  116.   see ODD 3d shading effects in PlanetWatch windows or inexplicable GPF's
  117.   when attempting to run PlanetWatch this is a likely cause. Rename the
  118.   copy of threed.vbx in your /windows/system directory to threed.bak and
  119.   try using the copy supplied with PlanetWatch. The next release of
  120.   PlanetWatch will no longer use this otherwise neat vbx!...
  121. * Are all PlanetWatch files in the appropriate directories?
  122.  
  123. Although every effort has been made to eliminate program bugs, there is
  124. always something I may have overlooked.  I would appreciate your help in
  125. making PlanetWatch better by reporting any problems you encounter.

  138. KNOWN BUGS
  139. No known catastrophic bugs...
  140. * With some 16-color display drivers, the PlanetWatch "Diagnostic" help
  141.   function reports "0 colors".  Although incorrect, this does not affect
  142.   normal operation of PlanetWatch in any way.
  143. * Sometimes animations refuse to run. Easiest fix is to quit the
  144.   Animation Dialog and then open it again. If you have the ephemeris
  145.   window open, try closing it. I'm looking for this problem but thus far
  146.   this one is elusive!  :-(

  151. You may use and distribute the shareware version of PlanetWatch as long as
