As well as including all the files relating to the Hands On section of PC Plus, this installation routine will also install two extra programs:

A directory browser that allows you to attach descriptions to your files.
PUDGE
A challenging puzzle game for Windows.
FILES FROM HANDS ON SECTION OF PC PLUS
VISUAL BASIC WORKSHOP
API Magic - a readerÆs program containing a database of Windows API calls.
Optionally, a copy of VBRUN300.DLL will also be copied to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (needed to run EXE files).
HELP SCREEN
FILECULL.EXE: A DOS-based utility that deletes files older than a user-specified age. Handle with great care!
Fixtime v1.2: Use this freeware DOS program to correct drifting system clocks. Once it has worked out by how much the clock drifts, Fixtime can be run from AUTOEXEC.BAT to apply the correction automatically each day. Also included is GETREAL.COM, which synchronises the CMOS and DOS clocks.
AccuSet v3.5a: This Windows shareware can be used in a similar way to Fixtime, but its main claim to fame is its ability to use your modem to dial up the BBCÆs computer-based time and date service (or local equivalent outside the UK) and synchronise your PCÆs clock.
METZ Scheduler: Another Windows shareware package, METZ Scheduler will run programs at pre-determined times, just like the schedulers in PC Tools and Norton Desktop. Schedulers can be incredibly useful - you can have it run AccuSet periodically, for example.
WILF'S PROGRAMMERS' WORKSHOP
BUTTONS2.BAS: An updated version of BUTTONS.BAS from last month. As well as a sculpted 3D effect for the buttons, it can find its overlay file anywhere on the PATH.
CREAT01.BAS: Use this to create the overlay module needed by BUTTONS2.BAS and other QBasic programs that use interrupts.
PATHFIND.BAS: A demonstration of finding a named file anywhere on the PATH setting.
POLYGONS.BAS: A foretaste of next monthÆs Workshop in which Wilf will discuss how to draw polygons in various shapes, sizes and distortions.
