- This is actually usable if you're a bit adventourous. Keep a copy of your OS around to install in
- case something screws up though :)
-
- Setup pauses after install for a LONG time, it's not a hang.
- Close everything possible you can find running before installing.
- It does uninstall fairly gracefully, plus there's a brute force method in C:\program files\internet
- explorer\ie4.txt for getting your OS back (at least bootable anyway)
-
- This is a BIG upgrade, it replaces explorer.exe, shell32.dll, and pretty much all the gui aspects
- of your OS.
-
- single clicks opens folders now
- alt-left-arrow is back
- there's no difference between internet explore and explorer now
-
- The Platform Preview is due sometime next week (downloadable from MS), should be a lot less limited
- (though still no channels). The first public beta will probably be out early april. Only install
- this if you're curious and willing to go through some headaches.
-
- This is NOT the august alpha though, not by a long shot (you can tell cause I can still use my
- computer), Man the desktop looks different, system tray will do multiple lines now, among all the
- Office97 looking stuff (coolbars galore).
-
-
- have fun anyone who tries it
-
-
- <later>: Build is: Alpha 2 (4.71.0225.0)
-
- This actually makes it a build or 2 up from the late nov release I though it was (ftpsearch for
- ie4w95.exe, you'll see a 7.4MB one everywhere). For one thing, some of the active html works in
- this which didn't in the other.
-
- No new mail and news client though, those are in the latest (24 Feb) private beta.
