  1. The ZIP KIT CD-ROM from Abacus

  5. Thank you for purchasing The ZIP KIT CD-ROM. We hope you enjoy 
  6. experimenting with all the programs we've included on the CD-ROM. 
  7. Please remember, always read instructions first! The programs
  8. included on the CD-ROM are fully functioning 'shareware evaluation 
  9. versions' of the best data compression programs available today. 
  10.  
  11. Because shareware is copyrighted, the authors ask 
  12. for payment if you use their program(s). You may try out the program for a 
  13. limited time, typically 10 to 30 days, and then decide whether you want to 
  14. keep it. If you continue to use it, you're requested to send the author a 
  15. nominal fee. Shareware benefits both the user and the author as it allows 
  16. prices to remain low by avoiding distribution, packaging, and advertising 
  17. costs.

  19. If you encounter ANY problems copying or running any programs, simply
  20. use an appropriate method to copy the zipped file from their respective
  21. directory on the CD-ROM to your hard drive and uncompress.

  24. Shareware, Freeware and Public Domain Software
  25.  
  26. The shareware concept allows small software companies and program authors 
  27. to introduce the application programs they have developed to a wider 
  28. audience. The programs can be freely distributed and tested for a specific 
  29. time period before you have to register them. Registration involves paying 
  30. registration fees, which make you a licensed user of the program. Check the 
  31. documentation or the program itself for the amount of registration fee 
  32. and the address where you send the registration form.

  34. After registration you will frequently get the current full version of 
  35. the program without restrictions and shareware notes as well as the option 
  36. of purchasing upgraded versions later for a reduced price. As a rule, larger 
  37. applications include a users manual. Shareware programs usually feature 
  38. the complete performance range of the full versions. Some programs use 
  39. special messages to indicate they're shareware versions. The message 
  40. usually appears immediately after program startup or can be called from 
  41. the Help menu.

  43. The ZIP KIT CD-ROM CD will illustrate the variety of data compression
  44. shareware now available for the Windows and DOS operating systems.

  46. To ensure that the program authors continue writing programs and offering them
  47. as shareware, we urge you to support the shareware concept by registering 
  48. the programs that you plan to use on a permanent basis.

  50. You will find program instructions as well as notes on registration for 
  51. the shareware propgrams in special text files located in the program 
  52. directory of each program. These programs are usually called READ.ME, 
  53. README.TXT or README.DOC.

  55. Some of the programs on this CD-ROM are distributed as freeware or 
  56. public domain. You can use these programs without paying a registration 
  57. fee. Keep in mind that freely distributed programs cannot be used for 
  58. commercial purposes and are sometimes subject to separate restrictions.

  60. The Menu program is a component of the shareware CD, 
  61. and it is neither shareware, freeware nor public domain. Distribution 
  62. of the Menu program from Abacus or any of its files is not allowed.

  64. The directories included on the companion CD-ROM are in the file called 
  65. CD_DIR.TXT

  67. We have also added a Windows program called ACROREAD.EXE. Run this 
  68. program and it will install Adobe's Acrobat Reader program. You will
  69. then be able to see all the files in the ABACUS directory with the
  70. .PDF file extensions.
