Transcription: In 1979, the United States Navy decided to prolong the life of the Lafayette-class submarines by retrofitting 12 of the boats with quieter propulsion equipment that would further insulate the sub from detection. Also added was the Trident C-4 missile, which was more capable than the Poseidon. Work was completed on the submarines in 1982, and all 12 of the submarines carried the designation of Benjamin Franklin-class missile boats.
