- This archive contains a wide variety of software and hardware for using the Nintendo PowerGlove
- as an input device on a variety of platforms. It's focused on preserving these artifacts
- from the 1990s but I have included select modern software and hardware as well as I
- feel it is significant.
-
- This is a "living archive" which I will update as I find additional items.
- Any updates made to this archive will be added as a zip file in the root directory
- with the name of updateXX.zip, where XX = the update number.

- Introduction:
-
- If you used the Power Glove in the 90s for VR then chances are you probably
- read the article from the July 1990 BYTE Magazine article "Reach Out and Touch your Data"
- which showed a simple hardware hack to wire the glove to a parallel port.
- Glove devices were extremely expensive but the Power Glove was somewhat accessible
- which made it the perfect candidate for a hardware hack.
- The exorbitant costs of VR software and hardware in the 1990s spawned a large
- DIY hardware hacking scene, and though this hack may have existed earlier than the article,
- it helped fuel what was to come. I am trying to recapture the excitement which revolved around
- the Power Glove with a comprehensive archive here.
-
- That said, I'm sure there are things missing and I would appreciate any additional
- files and information so it can be added. What's here is mostly from my personal collection
- from the 90s. If you have any old glove adapter devices available I am interested in them.
- Please comment on this archive.org item or email vrcollect@gmail.com with files/links/info etc.
-
- If this is an interesting topic to you then I recommend the following books:
- Garage Virtual Reality by Linda Jacobson
- The Virtual Reality Homebrwer's Handbook by Book by Robin Hollands, Chris Hand and Sean Clark
- PCVR Magazine (half of the issues are currently available here on Internet Archive, also check my items for the disks)
- PCVR was heavily focused on the glove as most of thier software used REND386.
- They were also heavily into hardware hacking and DIY device creation.

- Related software:
- For PC I would recommend trying the very PowerGlove-centric
- REND386, VR386 and AVRIL as they were so heavily focused on the glove and
- are probably ultimately the best experience. They also support shutter glasses and
- a host of other devices and have more objects and worlds than anything else available
- at the time.
- Another popular title of the time worth mentioning which has Glove support is
- 2morrow World Builder and it's available here on Internet Archive.
- I will be releasing a massive REND386 archive so stay tuned to my
