  1. CALENDAR CREATOR PLUS README

  4. This file provides technical information about editing the 
  5. POWERUP.INI file for expert computer users. For general 
  6. information about using the program, consult the Calendar 
  7. Creator Plus User's Guide or the supplement (if any).
  8.  
  9. You can read this file on screen or print it by choosing 
  10. Print from the File menu.

  13. POWERUP.INI
  14. ===========
  15. There are several options that you can set or add to your 
  16. POWERUP.INI file to optimize the performance of Calendar Creator
  17. Plus. 
  18.  
  19. The POWERUP.INI file is located in your Windows directory.  Make
  20. a backup copy of the file before you start editing the file.  
  21. Use a text editor like Notepad to edit the file.  You must exit 
  22. Calendar Creator Plus and restart it for the changes to take 
  23. effect. 
  24.  
  25. NOTE: The POWERUP.INI file is also used by other PowerUp products,
  26. such as Express Publisher and PowerAlbum.  You should leave
  27. any entries for those programs alone, or you may affect their
  28. performance.
  29.  
  30. The default values and descriptions are listed below.  The 
  31. characters in brackets (e.g. [Calendar Creator Plus]) define 
  32. the section of the POWERUP.INI file where the entries are located.

  35. [Calendar Creator Windows]
  36. BackgroundMax=1900
  37. This sets the maximum size, in dots, for background 
  38. pictures. If you experience problems when printing large 
  39. background pictures, you may want to set this option to a lower 
  40. number. Since the value is in dots, you may get a larger
  41. background picture on the screen than you do when printing.
  42. (Min=100, Max=2400)

  45. BigPictureBorderMargin=5
  46. This sets the distance, in 1/100 of an inch, between the edge of
  47. a big picture and its border on all four sides.  (Min=0, Max=100)
  48.

  50. BigPictureDescMargin=2
  51. This sets the distance, in 1/100 of an inch, between a 
  52. big picture (or its border, if selected) and a big picture
  53. title.  (Min=0, Max=100)
  54.

  56. ClipboardFormats=2
  57. This tells Calendar Creator Plus which graphic file format to use 
  58. when you choose Edit | Copy Calendar to place a calendar on 
  59. the Clipboard.  Some applications accept pictures pasted from 
  60. the Clipboard better if they are bitmaps, others prefer 
  61. metafiles.  Enter 1 for Bitmap, 2 for Metafile, or 3 for both.

  63. If you are using a high resolution, 256-color video driver, you 
  64. may experience problems with the bitmap format.  In that 
  65. case, you must use setting 2.
  66.

  68. ColumnWidthTestString=NNNNNN
  69. Enter a number of characters to specify how much space must 
  70. exist to the side of small left- or right-justified event 
  71. pictures in order to place the event text next to the 
  72. picture.  Calendar Creator Plus uses the width of the group of 
  73. characters in the event's font and type size to calculate the 
  74. space.  If you decrease the number of characters, more event 
  75. names will appear to the side of small graphics, but they are 
  76. likely to be heavily hyphenated. (Min=2 characters, Max=10 
  77. characters)

  80. EventMarginX=1
  81. EventMarginY=1
  82. These control the line space between events and the margins 
  83. between events and the date box boundaries.  The numbers are 
  84. in 1/100 of an inch.  If you decrease the number, events will 
  85. appear closer together and closer to the date box boundary.

  89. FooterMargin=5
  90. This sets the distance, in 1/100 of an inch, between the
  91. bottom of the calendar and the footer.  (Min=0, Max=100)

  94. HeaderMargin=5
  95. This sets the distance, in 1/100 of an inch, between the
  96. bottom of the largest header element (either title, subtitle,
  97. title picture, or small calendar) and the top of the calendar.

  101. Hebrew=Yes
  102. Set this to No to turn off the display of the Hebrew &fields in
  103. the &field dialog, and the Repeat Every Hebrew anniversary rules
  104. on the Repeat dialog.  This does not affect the translation or use
  105. of Hebrew &fields and repeat rules that already exist in event 
  106. lists or workspaces.

  109. HyphenZone=30
  110. This is the size, in 1/100 of an inch, that the program leaves
  111. at the end of a line without trying to hyphenate words to fit 
  112. in the space.  If you decrease this number, Calendar Creator 
  113. Plus will hyphenate more words. (Min=10, Max=100)

  116. ImportExportDelimiter=,
  117. This sets the delimiter used when importing or saving to comma
  118. delimited files (CSV).  You can set this to another character 
  119. (like a hyphen [-] or a period), if desired.

  122. MidPointMargin=15
  123. Used only for layouts with Big Picture on Top.  
  124. Specify in 1/100 of an inch how much margin to leave in the 
  125. middle of the page, below the big picture and above the 
  126. calendar.  This affects how far down the calendar will appear 
  127. on the bottom half of the page, and how far up the big picture 
  128. and its title (if any) will appear on the top half of the page. 
  129. (Min=0, Max=100)

  132. MinColumnWidth=100
  133. This sets the minimum width, in 1/100 of an inch, of event columns
  134. specified in the Layout Options/Event Display dialog.  When using
  135. either automatic mode or a user-specified number of columns, the
  136. program will not make any columns smaller than this width.  
  137.  
  138. NOTE: This may result in the number of actual columns displayed 
  139. being different from the number specified.  (Min=0, Max=999)
  140.

  142. MinDiskSpace=512
  143. This sets the minimum disk space, in kilobytes, needed in your
  144. Temp drive before Calendar Creator Plus will start.  (Min=0, Max=64000)

  147. MinFreeSpace=1024
  148. This sets the minimum free memory, in kiloBytes, needed before
  149. Calendar Creator Plus will start.  (Min=0, Max=64000)

  152. MinNoteHeight=14
  153. This sets the minimum distance, in 1/100 of an inch, between
  154. lines in the ToDo areas of the two-page month, week schedule, and
  155. day layouts.  Calendar Creator Plus adjusts the distance based on
  156. form size, but the distance will get no smaller than this value.

  160. MinResourceSpace=5
  161. This sets the minimum amount, expressed as a percentage, of 
  162. system resources that must be available before Calendar Creator 
  163. Plus will start. (Min=0, Max=99)

  166. MinWordLength=7
  167. This is the minimum word length required under normal 
  168. circumstances to have Calendar Creator Plus hyphenate a word 
  169. that does not fit on a line.  If you decrease the number, 
  170. Calendar Creator Plus will hyphenate shorter words. (Min=3, 
  171. Max=10)

  174. NoteLines=40
  175. This option determines the number of dashed lines to print
  176. in the To Do areas of the 2-page month, work schedule, and 
  177. day layouts. The total available area is divided by this 
  178. number to yield the number of dashed lines. The distance 
  179. between lines can be no smaller than the MinNoteHeight.

  182. PictureBorder=4
  183. This sets the distance, in 1/100 of an inch, between event 
  184. pictures and the cell borders or adjacent event text.

  188. PrintFontsInBlack=Yes
  189. For black and white (non-color) printers only.
  190. This option controls how colored fonts print on black and white
  191. printers when the Print In Black And White checkbox in the 
  192. Print dialog box is turned OFF (blank).

  194. If this option is set to Yes, all nonwhite fonts will print 
  195. in black.  If the option is set to No, then nonwhite fonts 
  196. will be dithered by the printer driver which may result in their
  197. appearing very light or disappearing.

  200. PrintPreview=0
  201. This controls the display of text in the small print preview 
  202. calendars that appear in the Printing dialog box.  The default 
  203. setting of 0 turns off the display of text, showing only 
  204. pictures and lines.  A setting of 1 displays the text along with 
  205. the pictures and lines.  If you are using video drivers that were 
  206. not supplied with Windows, you should leave this setting at 0 to 
  207. avoid possible problems.  Otherwise, you can use a setting of 1 
  208. to display the text.

  211. SecondLineIndentPercent=8
  212. This tells the program to indent the second and subsequent lines
  213. of event names by the specified percentage of the column width.
  214. Decrease the number to leave a smaller indent. (Min=0, Max=50) 
  215.

  217. SecondLineIndentMax=15
  218. This sets the maximum distance, in 1/100 of an inch, that the 
  219. program can indent second and subsequent lines of event names. 
  220. The indent is controlled by the SecondLineIndentPercent discussed
  221. above.  (Min=0, Max=50)

  224. [Calendar Creator Print Options]
  225. FudgeX=0        
  226. FudgeY=0
  227. These adjust the printed output on each page to allow for minor 
  228. printer adjustments and form alignment.  You can enter a positive 
  229. or negative integer to move the output in the X and/or Y 
  230. direction in 1/100 of an inch.  FudgeX moves the output left and 
  231. right across the page; FudgeY moves the output up and down the 
  232. page.  Note that the paper width is defined on the Page Setup 
  233. dialog box in Calendar Creator Plus. (Min=-100, Max=100)

  238. You normally should never have to change this setting.
  239. Kodak CD's contain each image in five different resolutions. 
  240. Calendar Creator Plus uses this INI setting to determine which
  241. resolution to use. This depends on the picture size needed on the
  242. calendar, and the resolution of your screen or printer.  
  243.  
  244. The numbers are pairs of x and y sizes (in pixels) that define 
  245. the boundaries of each resolution.  Calendar Creator Plus uses
  246. the pair that is one size larger than the image requires. For 
  247. example, if an image were 180 pixels across by 100 pixels down, 
  248. the program would use resolution pair number 1 (192, 128).

  251. BigTif=No
  252. This option limits the size of the TIFF files that can be 
  253. displayed or printed in Calendar Creator Plus. If the setting is 
  254. No, you cannot read in TIFF files larger than 1 Mb. Changing the 
  255. setting to Yes allows you to read in larger TIFF files, but it 
  256. may cause problems with some video drivers. If you want to use 
  257. larger TIFFs and experience problems, try rerunning Windows Setup 
  258. and choosing a lower resolution setting for Display.

  261. [Aliases]
  262. Roman=TimesNewRomanPS
  263. Modern=Arial MT
  264. These aliases are used to assign the fonts when you choose
  265. Workspace/New or open one of the event lists that ships with 
  266. Calendar Creator Plus.  The aliases are only used when the program
  267. cannot find an alias for the Roman or Modern fonts in WIN.INI 
  268. (when using TrueType) or ATM.INI (when using ATM).

  299. These entries define your default paper stocks.  If you have 
  300. deleted or changed entries in the Page Setup dialog box in 
  301. Calendar Creator Plus and want to reset the values to the 
  302. original ones, you can either copy the values from this file 
  303. or delete all the Stock entries in your POWERUP.INI and reinstall 
  304. Calendar Creator Plus.

  306. You should not attempt to edit these values in the POWERUP.INI 
  307. file. Choose Modify in the Page Setup dialog box to change the
  308. dimensions of a selected paper stock.
