  1. System Requirements for the use of Microsoft Word Viewer
  2.  -  A personal computer with a 386DX or higher microprocessor
  3.  -  Microsoft Windows(r) 95 operating system or Microsoft Windows NT(tm)
  4.     Workstation operating system 3.51 or later
  5.  -  4 MB of memory for Windows 95 (6 MB recommended);
  6.     16 MB of memory for Windows NT Workstation
  7.  -  3 MB of hard disk space (6MB free for installation only)
  8.  -  VGA or higher-resolution video adapter
  9.  -  Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
  10.  
  11. To install Word Viewer, please follow these instructions:
  12.  
  13. 1.  Installation of Word Viewer is designed to take place from within
  14.     Microsoft Windows. If Windows is not running, please start it
  15.     before continuing.
  16.  
  17. 2.  Make sure to close all applications first, and make sure you are
  18.     not running any utilities or virus protection before proceeding.
  19.  
  20. 3.  If you have installed the Word Viewer from a prior Windows 95 beta,
  21.     you should first uninstall that version before installing this one.
  22.     For directions on uninstall, consult the README.DOC file included
  23.     with the prior version of Word Viewer.
  24.  
  25. 4.  Run the SETUP.EXE program included with the Word Viewer. This is
  26.     located in the same directory as this INSTALL.TXT file which should
  27.     be located in <path>\WORDVIEW\DISK1. The <path> will vary depending
  28.     on whether you received the Word Viewer with Windows 95, with the
  29.     Microsoft Office for Windows 95 Value Pack, or via other sources.

  31. 5.  Word Viewer Setup will prompt you for a folder in which to install
  32.     the Word Viewer. The default folder location for the Word Viewer is
  33.     C:\PROGRAM FILES\WORDVIEW.

  35. 6.  Click the "Installation" button to install the Word Viewer.
  36.  
  37. 7.  If Word Viewer Setup detects Word for Windows (version 6.0 or later)
  38.     on your system, it will prompt you to determine which application
  39.     should open Word documents by default. For example, the 'default'
  40.     application is used to open files with *.DOC or *.DOT file
  41.     extensions when they are double-clicked in the Windows 95 shell.
  42.  
  43.     - Choosing "Open with Word" means that Word for Windows will be used
  44.       by default to open Word files.
  45.  
  46.     - Choosing "Open with Viewer" means that Word Viewer will be used by
  47.       default to open Word files. NOTE: If you choose this option, you
  48.       must run the Word for Windows Setup program to restore Word for
  49.       Windows as the default viewer of Word documents.

  69. 9.  To run Word Viewer, click the Start button on the Windows 95 Taskbar
  70.     and then point to Programs. Microsoft Word Viewer is located there or
  71.     in the Accessories folder. Alternatively, you can run Word Viewer by
  72.     double-clicking on the WORDVIEW.EXE file in your \WORDVIEW folder.
