- **** WinCMD 4 Readme ****
- **** By Erik H Gawtry ****
- **** Revised 3-25-95 ****

-
- WinCMD was originally conceived as a specialized shell to allow alias'
- and other UNIX like commands on a DOS system. This was a program called
- GSH (gush), which emulated a UNIX CSH under DOS. When Windows 2.01 came out,
- it was immediatly obvious the advantages of a (pseudo) multitasking operating
- system. WinCMD was born that night.
-
- Over the years, Additions were added to bring WinCMD to it's current form.
-
- WinCMD is a shareware product, and any contributions would be appreciated.
- You are free to use WinCMD for 30 days for evaluation. I suggest a modest
- $15.
-
- You May Register by "GO SWREG" on Compuserve. This will entitle you to a
- mailed copy of the program on disk (USA only) and Update Notices.
- The Registration Number is 1874.
-
- For problems with WinCMD, please read trblsht.txt.
- For installing WinCMD, please read wincmd.txt.

-
- Note about WinCMD 4 on Windows 3.1:
-
- This is NOT the PC Magazine WinCMD!!! I was using the name looong
- before PC Mag (WinCMD 1.0 was ported from Windows 2.01 in 1989),
- so I kept it out of general principals.
-
- For New Users, these are the major features:
-
- 1. Full CLI interface.
- 2. Runs great under NT (no extended filenames, however).
- 3. UNIX like process control.
- 4. Super fast copying with coice of DOS type copy readout,
- or Windows Gas Guage readout.
- 5. Multiple Instance Compatible for operating several copies at once.
- 6. Full OOPS programming.
- 7. Full DDE cold link interface (See Help File).
- 8. Complete DOS like environment control (something sadly lacking
- from windows Program Manager, although NT has it).
- 9. Full Norton NDOS and 4DOS DESCRIBE compatibility.
- 10. Built in File decompression with copying (COMPRESS).
- 11. File Type Icons.
- 12. Double speed 32-bit copying (if you are using 32-bit disk access).
- 13. Uses Registration Database for "Run App" function.
- 14. 16 bit so will run on ALL windows systems.
- 15. Variable width "dir /w".
- 16. Uses IOCTL in a Virtual DOS Machine instead of INT 24, so will work
- on all windows machines, including Tandys and Compaqs.
- 17. Supports Dropped Files from the File Manager (and Norton Desktop).
- 18. Due to popular demand, now supports "&" copies.
- 19. Font can be changed.
- 20. Uses full path in autolaunch.
- 21. Includes all standard windows networking features.
- 22. More DOS commands supported.
- 23. File Redirection.
- 24. Background File Copying.
- 25. File Manager Supported. (Including WinFile 3.11 toolbar!)
- 26. Toolbar.
