  4. CD-Runner for Windows is a unique new Audio CD & CD-ROM Utility for Windows.
  5. Audio CDs and CD-ROMs are now easier to run than ever. Simply place the 
  6. CD/CD-ROM into the drive, and click the CD-Runner icon. CD-Runner will
  7. automatically identify the type of disk (CD/CD-ROM), query the library 
  8. database to get any stored information, and run it. If a CD is detected,
  9. a CD player faceplate will be displayed; if a CD-ROM is detected, a CD-ROM
  10. runner will be displayed.

  12. If multiple programs are on the same CD-ROM, or if using multiple CD-ROMs
  13. (CD-ROM changer), a search feature allows you to step through the different
  14. programs & applications. Both DOS & Windows-based CD-ROMs are supported as
  15. well. In the CD-ROM library section, you are able to add or edit any entries
  16. into the CD-ROM library (database), and include icons, sounds, music, 
  17. passwords, program titles & descriptions for each CD-ROM. In the Audio CD
  18. Library, you may enter CD Title, Artist, Songs, and Liner Notes.

  20. The unregistered shareware copy of CD-Runner for Windows may be
  21. distributed freely as long as none of the files are altered in any way.
  22. Although the shareware version limits use to a maximum of 5 CD-ROMs,
  23. it does provide you with a full working demo to try before you decide to
  24. buy.

  26. CD-Runner for Windows is actually a "spin-off" from STAR MENU (tm) for Windows.
  27. STAR MENU for Windows includes a stripped-down CD-ROM runner similar to the
  28. one found in CD-Runner, and also includes a Removable Disk Runner, a very 
  29. powerful yet easy to use menuing application or shell, a password-based 
  30. security system with a host of user options, a quick application launcher,
  31. a floating toolbar which allows you to have a portable toolkit available
  32. to any Windows application, activity logs, an application scheduler, animation,
  33. full multimedia support and much more.

  35. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of CD-Runner for Windows, or
  36. STAR MENU for Windows, simply click on the "About" menu and click on the 
  37. "Register" command in the shareware version which you are currently running,
  38. or print the file "ORDER.FRM".

  45. The following new features have been added to CD-Runner for Windows 2.1:

  47. * New Wallpaper option for both CD Player & CD-ROM Runner

  49. * New Audio Mixer option to control Volume, Balance, Bass & Treble Tone
  50.   Controls, etc.

  52. * New miminized loading option
  53.  
  54. * New logic to search all drives if application path is not found; this
  55.   allows applications to be found despite "drive letter changes"
  56.   (e.g. due to removable drives/disks not in use at boot time) 
  57.  
  58. * New parameter line support, setup in the CD-ROM Library section
  59.   (e.g., Command Line: C:\WINDOWS\WINHELP.EXE CLIPBRD.HLP)

  61. The following new features have been added to CD-Runner for Windows 2.0a:
  62.  
  63. * Version 2.0a corrects Audio CD problem if using Windows 3.1
  64.   (Windows 3.11 worked fine).
  65.  
  66. * CD PLAYER - if a CD is placed into the CD-ROM drive, it is automatically
  67.   identified and read; a new CD Player faceplate (much like the actual
  68.   faceplate of many new audio CD players) will be displayed. The audio CD
  69.   may also be setup into the library with it's Title, Artist, Songs, and 
  70.   Liner Notes; these will be displayed as the CD is run.

  72.   All of the typical CD player functions are supported including 
  73.   programming capabilities, repeat mode, time functions, etc.. Other 
  74.   additions not normally found on a CD player include a song status bar 
  75.   showing % of song completion (click on this bar with the mouse to directly
  76.   move to the associated position in the song), and a 2-icon "minimize" 
  77.   option which allows the CD to play without the CD player screen displayed
  78.   (the icons will display the time, track #, and song).

  80.   NOTE: to use the CD player, you must have an "MCI CD player" driver loaded.
  81.   To load the driver (normally supplied with Windows), use the Windows Control
  82.   Panel, and select the "Drivers" & "Add" options; select the "[MCI] CD Audio"
  83.   driver from the list. If an MCI CD player compatible driver is not found or
  84.   does not work with your CD-ROM drive, the normal operation of the CD-ROM 
  85.   runner may be affected as well. In this case, disable the CD player until a
  86.   compatible setup can be achieved. The CD-ROM runner will normally function 
  87.   even in the event that the CD player setup does not work.
  88.   ** The MCI CD player driver file is named "MCICDA.DRV" and is usually found 
  89.      in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory.

  91. * MULTI-DISK CD-ROM CHANGER - Supports CD-ROM changers (with multiple CD-ROM
  92.   capability); use the CD-Runner setup section to enter the CD-ROM drive
  93.   letters, and when in the CD-ROM section of CD-Runner simply click on the
  94.   "Search" option to run applications from any of the CD-ROM drives. The 
  95.   current CD-ROM drive letter will also be displayed on the CD-ROM runner
  96.   screen.

  98. * GREATLY EXPANDED CD-ROM LIBRARY FEATURES - includes greatly expanded icon
  99.   support to read icons from ICO, EXE, DLL, WMF, and ICL files. Also includes
  100.   improved screens and options.

  102. * AUTOMATIC CD/CD-ROM RECOGNITION - CD-Runner is designed to automatically
  103.   recognize if a CD or CD-ROM is loaded into the CD-ROM drive, and display
  104.   the CD player or CD-ROM runner screen as appropriate.

  106. * SYSTEM INFORMATION - in the about section, a new System Info option has
  107.   been added to show detailed hardware / software information including
  108.   free system resources.

  110. * SMALL FONT ADJUSTMENT - a new automatic small font adjustment routine 
  111.   has been added to adjust the graphics & text spacing. Usually Windows
  112.   resolutions of 640x480 (VGA) & 600x800 (Super-VGA) use the small font 
  113.   option, while resolutions of 1024x768 or higher use the large font option;
  114.   CD-Runner will automatically identify the font size being used by the 
  115.   video driver and adjust as required.
