-
- !! CERTAIN PARAMETERS HAVE BEEN SUPERCEDED !!
-
-
- The /w /d and /m parameters have been removed and superceded by the
- /a parameter. More specifically, you may now use (-) or (+) after
- a drive specification to remove or add write-caching (delayed write)
- for any drive.
-
- For example:
-
- I_CACHE /a:D(-) Removes write-caching from drive D
-
- I_CACHE /a:C(+)+ Turns on drive C and asserts write-
- caching for the drive.
-
-
- You may use these in combination:
-
- I_CACHE /a:C(-)D+(-)E(+)
-
-
- With this example, write-caching is removed from drive C,
- drive D is turned on and write-caching is removed from
- drive D, and write-caching is asserted on drive E.
-
-
-
- Please read the documentation (I_CACHE.DOC) on use of the /a: parameter.
-
-
- CAUTION: If you are using write-caching (delayed-write) with removable
- media, please ensure all buffers are written to disk prior
- to removing the media. If you are working from the command
- line, the prompt will typically return prior to the disk(s)
- being completely written!!!
-
- -----> PLEASE ensure that all buffers are written to disk before
- rebooting !! I_Cache can detect most reboots but sometimes
- the disk can be rebooted before all buffers are written to
- disk. Before rebooting or turning your computer off use:
-
- LSHIFT+ALT+F hot key combination
-
- or
-
- I_CACHE /f from the command line
-
-
-
-
- !!!! PLEASE NOTE !!!!
-
-
- I_CACHE is NOT compatible with other disk caches. Please do not run any
- other disk caches along with I_CACHE !! Read on for info on VCACHE, VFAT
- and other components of 32BitFileAccess.
-
-
- Windows-for-Work-Groups
- -----------------------
-
- If you wish to use Windows-for-Work-Groups 32BitFileAccess feature, then
- turn OFF the appropriate drive in I_CACHE so I_CACHE does not manage the
- same drive. For example, if the components of 32BitFileAccess are managing
- drives C & D, the use I_CACHE /a:c-d- to turn off I_CACHE's management
- of those drives. I_CACHE would then only manage external and CD-ROM drives.
- Please see I_CACHE.DOC, pages 11, 12, and 23.
-
- However, you may find that I_CACHE outperforms 32BitFileAccess so, if you
- wish to use I_CACHE instead, then disable 32BitFileAccess and its components
- in the Windows System.ini file.
-
-
-
- Please see the SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY section in I_CACHE.DOC, starting on
- page 23 for notes on other software.
-
-
- MAGNETO-OPTICAL DISKS
- ---------------------
-
- I_Cache will be compatible with these disks only if they utilize a standard
- DOS boot sector. I_Cache will handle media configured in 512, 1024, and
- 2048 bytes-per-sector.
-
-
-
-
- !!!!!!!!!!!!! QEMM 7.5 USERS READ THIS !!!!!!!!
- --------------------------------------------------
-
- QEMM 7.5 seems to have a problem loading I_CACHE high and sometimes
- eroneously reports that it needs 60k+ to load. If you experience this
- problem, use the /SIZE parameter to force a smaller load block:
-
- loadhi /size:49k i_cache.exe ............
-
-
-
- !!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL QEMM USERS READ THIS !!!!!!!!
- --------------------------------------------------
-
- USE OF OPTIMIZE
-
- Please remove write-caching from the boot drive on which OPTIMIZE is
- running and optimizing. For example, if drive C is your boot drive
- which contains your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, use the following:
-
- i_cache /a:c(-)
-
-
- When OPTIMIZE is finished and you are satisfied with your config.sys and
- autoexec.bat file(s), then you may turn write-caching back on:
-
- i_cache /a:c(+)
-
-
