- SELECTIVE DISK FILE DELETION UTILITY
-
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────-
-
- Clean Sweep selectively deletes files from any disk by search-
- ing the entire contents of the disk for files matching a search
- string mask. This allows you to search an entire hard disk for
- all files matching the search mask "*.BAK", for example. All
- files matching the mask are placed into a window for either block
- deletion of all listed files, or selective deletion. For example,
- using Clean Sweep, you can delete all *.BAK files on your hard
- disk in seconds. You can also search for and list all *.DOC
- files, then mark and selectively delete only those you want.
- With Clean Sweep, you can even find and delete hidden and system
- files. This makes it convenient to delete all the tagged files
- created with many virus checking utilities. Those utilities
- often create hidden files for every *.COM, *.EXE, and *.SYS file
- on your hard disk. Hundreds of hidden files can be scattered all
- over your hard disk, and if you decide to delete them, you must
- use a utility that will find them, and then erase them one at a
- time. Clean Sweep will do it in seconds.

-
- USING CLEAN SWEEP
-
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────-
-
- First, read the admonitions in the CAUTION and DISCLOSURE
- sections below. Resposibility for management of this software
- lies exclusively in the hands of the user. If you have any doubt
- about how to use this or any other program, then avoid the pro-
- gram in question.
-
- Next, add Clean Sweep to your Windows file launching utility
- by running the file CLN.EXE from DOS. Be sure you run it from DOS
- command line first to unpack the windows program CLEAN.EXE from
- the self extracting program CLN.EXE. You can use the dos shell
- from Windows Main if you like. Then add the program CLEAN.EXE to
- your Windows program launcher. If you use Program Manager, pull
- down File and select New. Select Browse and select the directory
- where you placed CLEAN.EXE. Choose CLEAN.EXE and then OK.
-
-
- After adding Clean Sweep to your program launcher, double
- click on the Clean Sweep icon to run the program. To search for
- files other than *. BAK examples, modify the search mask to
- reflect the files you want to delete. The default search mask is
- *.BAK. The default search drive is the current drive. To search
- a drive other than the default, select another drive. Click on
- Begin File Search button to begin the search. If any matching
- files are found they are listed in the Listing Of Files Found
- window. Press Cancel to abort the search process while it is in
- progress.
-
- To delete all files listed in the Listing Of Files Found
- window, click on Delete Files Found button and select Delete All
- Files Found. To delete selected files only, hold down the con-
- trol key continuously, and click once on each of the files you
- wish to delete with your mouse. Then click on the Delete Files
- Found button, and select Delete Only Selected Files.
-
- To delete hidden files created with virus checking util-
- ities, determine the file extension used by the virus utility.
- Some virus utilities underscore the first letter of the file
- extension for all *.COM, *.EXE, and *.SYS files on your hard
- disk. They use the extention ._OM, for example, to tag each *.COM
- file. Others might use the extension .~OM, or another variation.
- With DOS 5.x you can use the dos command DIR /AH to view hidden
- files in any given directory. Once you determine the tag
- pattern, set the Search Mask to reflect it for tagged *.COM files
- (*._OM for example) and perform a search. Repeat this process for
- *.EXE, and *.SYS files.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- CAUTION!
-
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────-
-
- Clean Sweep will NOT allow the Search Mask *.*, or a blank
- Search Mask field. This protects against deleting all files in
- every directory on a hard disk. HOWEVER, since Clean Sweep finds
- hidden and system files, many important files can be accidentally
- deleted. So BE CAREFUL using this utility! It's up to you to
- use Clean Sweep wisely and carefully. If you have any doubts
- about the importance of any files found, cancel the deletion
- process. Once again, TAKE CARE DELETING FILES, especially those
- with the extensions *.EXE, *.COM, and *.SYS.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- FOR ETHICAL USERS
-
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────-
-
- Try Clean Sweep. Distribute it freely. If you're amused by
- it, but find no use for it, don't worry about it. If it's cute,
- but beneath your dignity, give it away. Still, if you find
- yourself USING it, if it WORKS for you, the shareware license
- fee is $20.00.
-
- It's the nature and spirit of things that really make
- them valuable to us. Clean Sweep CAN make organizing and hard
- disk maintanence a great deal faster and easier. This can save
- you personal time.
-
- If Clean Sweep saves time, it saves money. At $20.00, the
- Clean Sweep License is nominal. If it only saved a few accumula-
- ted hours in the course of a season, it would still be signifi-
- cant. Your own time is unquestionably worth more than a few
- dollars an hour, isn't it?
-
- Clean Sweep is copyrighted. If you use it, Send your check
- or money order to Freestyle Software, 24307 Magic Mountain Park-
- way, Suite 255, Valencia, CA 91355. The Clean Sweep license is
- only $20.00. So if you use it, be dignified enough to register
- it. It's the right thing to do. (Yeah, yeah...He's Naive!)
