- ADDENDUM
- This is the addendum for Zfax version 3.20 and above. Since 3.12 we have added and
- improved features in our faxback portion. We have also added a whole new
- procedure that will allow paging and forwarding. First it would be wise to
- describe what each of these new features briefly before going into its details.
-
- Outcalling
-
- 1) Paging
-
- You can have yourself paged, once a message has been left in the system mailbox.
- The message can be just a fax message, a voice message or a combination of both
- fax and voice messages. Once paged it will display on the pager a code that was
- previously specified (eg. 111) in the configuration to identify itself as Zfax,
- plus it will also indicate how many fax and how many voice messages that you have
- in the mailbox. You could even specify whether you would like to be paged 24 hours
- a day or during office hours. The office hours can be specified in the
- configuration and changed remotely. Some of the outcalling functions which will
- be discussed later can be changed remotely. We will discuss this in more detail.
-
- 2) Forwarding
-
- You can have the voice or fax messages be automatically forwarded to a different
- destination. Once a message is received, it will after a specified amount of time
- dial the number that was specified and plays a message that identifies itself as
- a Zfax Forwarding message and prompts for a password. Once a password is entered
- correctly, the user can then retrieve the messages. This is done remotely. Once
- again, changing the number and the duration that the forwarding option is turned
- on can be changed remotely. This will be discussed in more detail later.
-
-
- FAXBACK
-
- This will allow a user to use Zfax as a faxback system with a capability of
- supporting up to 1000 documents. A user can request up to 4 documents. There are
- two options available in retrieving the documents:
-
- 1) The user must be calling from a faxphone and therefore no charges are incurred
- on the host side.
-
- 2) A caller can be calling from either a faxphone or a touchtone telephone and the
- caller, if (s)he so chooses, enters the number of the fax machine/modem that
- (s)he wants the fax sent to after (s)he hangs-up.
-
- You have the ability to prohibit international calls by entering the international
- access code of your country as part of the "BLOCK CODE". After the caller has
- entered the first document number he will be prompted to enter the next document
- number or enter "*" to indicate the selection is complete. Once a maximum of four
- documents are entered the caller will be prompted to identify the mode he wants
- the fax to be send. The caller when entering the number must enter the area code
- first and terminate it with a "#". This version of Zfax and above will allow you
- to directly go into faxback mode. How this is accomplished will be explained
- later.
-
- Outcalling.
-
- Configuring it locally.
-
- 1) Move the cursor to "System" under Configure and press the enter key.
- 2) Move the cursor to "System Maintain" and press the enter key and the default
- password is "9999".
-
- 3) Now you have entered outcalling menu and have available the options below:
- i) System Password: Just enter a 4-digit password or leave it at "9999"
- which is the default. Please note that it is advisable to change the
- default password for security reasons.
-
- ii) Outcalling function:
- Here you have four options:
- a) Voice only- This means that you enable the outcalling function only for
- voice messages that are left in the "SYSTEM MAILBOX".
- b) Fax only- This means that you enable the outcalling function only for
- faxes that are received in the "SYSTEM MAILBOX".
- c) All messages- This means that you enable the outcalling function for
- all messages regardless of voice or fax that are left in the "SYSTEM
- MAILBOX".
- d) Disable- This disables outcalling function altogether.
-
- iii) Outcalling number: The number of your pager system if the "Outcalling
- pager" is enabled or the number that you want your
- faxes or voice messages to be forwarded as defined in
- the "Outcalling function".
-
- iv) Outcalling Pager: If you want to enable outcalling function as a pager
- then this should be enabled.
-
- v) Page Pause: This was added because the variance in different pager system
- on the way they handle calls coming in. This is the waiting
- period before the "Paging ID" is send out. Lot of times a
- paging system will begin with a voice message that will
- prompt you to enter the calling number and because this is
- not a standard, Zfax will not know when to begin sending the
- "Paging ID". Since you are going through only a single paging
- system you need to find the right interval.
-
- vi) Pager Id: This number should be unique(ex.911) that informs you that it
- is Zfax that is paging you.
-
- vii) Outcalling Hour: It allows you to set the outcalling function enabled
- 24 hours a day or just during office hours.
-
- viii) Office hour from: If "Office Hours" is enabled then you would need to set
- the time that you want to begin being paged.
-
- ix) Office Hour to: If "Office Hours" is enabled then you would need to set
- the time that you want the outcalling function to halt.
-
- x) Initial Delay: This is the initial delay in mins before an outcalling
- function is activated after the arrival of a new message.
- The message could either be a fax message or a voice
- message depending on what the "Outcalling Function" is set
- to.
-
- xi) Retry Interval: The duration in mins before the outcalling function is
- activated again.
-
- xii) Max Attempts: Allows the user to set how many attempts are made before the
- event is no longer triggered.
- Configuring remotely.
- Here are the following functions that can be changed remotely in regard to the
- outcalling function:
-
-
- 1) The "Outcalling Function"
- 2) The "Outcalling Number"
- 3) The "Outcalling Pager"
- 4) The "Outcalling Hour"
- 5) The "Office Hour From"
- 6) The "Office Hour To"
-
- Here are the instructions on how to get into the "Administrative Menu"
- 1) Call into your modem
- 2) As the main greeting message is played press the "*" key.
- 3) Enter your password when prompted
- 4) Once in the remote menu press "6" to go into the outcalling administration.
- 5) Once you change any of the variables of the outcalling function it will become
- a permanent change until either it is changed again by the user locally from
- terminal or remotely by calling in.
-
- If you are using the outcalling function primarily for paging purposes then the
- format of the page when you receive it will look like this:
-
- "Paging-ID",# voice messages and # fax messages.
-
- The "Paging ID" is defined locally in the outcalling menu.
-
-
- FAXBACK
- You have two options in configuring this option:
- 1) Have Zfax go directly into the Faxback Service
- 2) Have Zfax go into the main greeting message and give the caller as one of the
- options to go into Faxback Service.
-
- To set up option 1 you would have to do the following:
- 1) Go into the "SYSTEM" menu under "Configuration" and move down the cursor until
- it is highlighted on "Normal Answer Ring" and press the ENTER key.
- 2) Choose "Faxback" as the option
- 3) Now when a caller comes in they will go directly into the Faxback Menu.
-
- Please note that you can also set this option for one of the different "Ring
- Answer Type" (ex. Ring 1 Answer Type) and have one line coming in with one number
- for fax/voice/data callers and the other number specifically for "Faxback".
-
- How to setup the range of faxback documents
- 1) Go into the "VOICE" menu under "Configuration" and move down the cursor until
- it is highlighted on "Faxback Digits" and the valid range of values is from 0-
- 2. Here is the value and the corresponding range:
-
- Value Range DTMFs Entered
- 1 10 faxback documents 0-9
- 2 100 faxback documents 0-99
- 3 999 faxback documents 0-999
-
- Please note that when a caller calls in and requests a document, the setting of
- the "Faxback Digits" will determine how many numbers the caller will enter on his
- touch tone phone.
-
-
- How to setup faxback documents.
- 1) Select the "Faxback" submenu under "Voice Mail" and press ENTER.
- 2) Move to the first row
- 3) Press F8
- 4) In the File Name field, enter or select the name of a file that you want the
- callers to retrieve.
- 5) Press ENTER and the Document is selected.
- 6) It should now no longer show "NOT EXIST" on the row you selected.
-
- Please note a detail explanation of selecting faxback documents is on page 98 of
- the ZFAX Manual.
-
- Methods of Faxback Service:
- 1) The default methodology assumes that the caller is calling from a faxphone.
- 2) A second alternative is that the caller could be calling from a touchtone phone
- and if this is desired then the following steps should be taken:
- a) Select the "FAX" submenu under "CONFIGURATION" and press ENTER. Move the
- cursor down until it is highlighted on "Faxback Outcall" and press ENTER.
- b) Enable this option and press ENTER.
- c) Selecting this option will enable both methods, touchtone phone and
- faxphone.
-
- How the Faxback Service works:
- The caller calls in and could be greeted in two ways:
- 1) Go directly into the Faxback Service main message or
- 2) Go into the main greeting message and the caller by pressing a DTMF tone will
- be directed directly to the Faxback Service main message.
-
- Note: The Faxback Service main message will vary according to the method chosen.
- If the caller only wants to give the caller faxphone privileges then the
- "nfboutv.zad" message will be played but on the other hand if touchtone and
- faxphone is allowed then the "askfaxbn.zad" will be played.
-
- 3) The caller will be prompted to enter a document number if known or choose an
- index of documents(ex.100). The caller, once the selection is completed for the
- first document will be prompted to end it by pressing the "*" or another
- document number. You can select up to four documents and once the limit is
- reached it automatically goes to the next menu.
- 4) The caller will be prompted to choose either of two methods:
- a) Faxphone
- b) Touchtone
- If touchtone is selected then the destination number is prompted.
- 5) The caller must enter the area code of the destination number regardless
- whether the caller is in the same area code. Here we need to discuss in more
- detail how the blocking function works. Go into "MODEM" under "CONFIGURATION"
- and press ENTER. There are four variables of interest:
- a) Local area code: This is area code of the host. When a caller who is
- calling from the same area code enters the number, the
- area code will be compared and if same, will not be part
- of the actual number dialed out. This is important if
- "Faxback Outcall" is selected.
- b) Long Distance Code: The long distance prefix, for example "1" in the U.S.A.
- Once again if the caller is from the same area code the
- "1" prefix will not be dialed out.
- c) Predial Code: This is the access code to get an outside line.
- d) Block Code: This allows the user for example to block Zfax from calling to
- international numbers(ex.011).
-
- Please note for all these variables you can enter up to 6 digits but only a single
- "Block Code" can be assigned.
- 6) Once the caller enters the number terminated with a "#", the system repeats the
- number to the caller for confirmation and if correct the caller is done and if
- not is prompted to enter the number again.
- 7) Once the caller hangs-up the fax is send out.
