  15. So you've bought that fancy new laser printer, only to realize that you
  16. already have a mouse and a modem on your system and Windows doesn't
  17. recognize Comm 3 and 4.  Initcomm will enable these ports for working
  18. with Windows.  You can then install your printer on Comm 3 or Comm 4
  19. leaving your mouse and modem undisturbed.
  20.  
  21. For some systems, MODE also does not properly report Comm 3 and Comm 4.
  22. INITCOMM should also fix this problem.
  23.  
  24. To install the program, place INITCOMM.EXE in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  25. This program is not memory resident.  Once the setup is complete, it
  26. removes itself from memory.
  27.  
  28. To test the effectiveness of the program, run the MSD utility in Windows
  29. and check to see what Comm ports are recognized.  If MSD already sees
  30. your Comm ports, INITCOMM is not needed.  Run INITCOMM, then check
  31. MSD again to see that the ports have been initialized.

  33. You will also need to set matching memory locations in Windows for your
  34. Comm ports.  Set Comm 3 to 03E8H  and COMM 4 to 02e8H within the Ports
  35. Icon of the Control Panel.

  39.        Settings
  40.        Advanced
  41.  
  42.        Then click on the proper memory address.

  44. If you are running a 386 in enhanced mode, add these lines to the SYSTEM.INI
  45. file in the [386Enh] section:

  47.           COM3Base = 03E8h
  48.           COM4Base = 02E8h
  49.           ComIrqSharing = true
