  17. Gabriele began to drive at the age of
  18. seven on the karting track run by his
  19. father. Racing for the Kali team he became
  20. Italian Champion in 1982.

  25. COMPETITION HISTORY

  27. 1983 - Italian Kart Champion. Started F3
  28.        participating in only two events
  29.        with an old '79 March. 
  30.  
  31. 1984 - Italian and World Kart Champion.
  32.        Won the Italian Federation
  33.        Supercoursa. Joined the F3000 team
  34.        Sanremo Racing and finished an
  35.        excellent fifth in the Championship 
  36.  
  37. 1986 - Moved to the new F3000 Coloni team
  38.        running a March from the previous
  39.        year. Finished twice on the podium
  40.        and eighth in the Championship.

  42. 1987 - Joined the new First Racing F3000
  43.        team, finished second at Imola and
  44.        seventh in the Championship. Raced
  45.        for the Formula 1 team Osella at
  46.        the San Marino Grand Prix.

  48. 1988 - Joined the new Formula 1 team,
  49.        Coloni, qualified eight times and
  50.        finished a brilliant eighth at the
  51.        Canadian GP, the best ever result
  52.        for the team in its brief history.

  54. 1989 - Moved to the AGS team and again
  55.        scored the best ever finish of the
  56.        team with a sixth place at the
  57.        Mexican GP. Raced a private BMW for
  58.        the Bigazzi team in touring cars,
  59.        scored one victory finishing fifth
  60.        in the Championship.

  62. 1990 - Raced for the AGS team in Formula
  63.        1. Stayed with the Bigazzi team in
  64.        touring cars.

  66. 1991 - Started the season with the AGS
  67.        team and moved to the Fondmetal
  68.        team for the last three races.
  69.        Qualified twice and finished a
  70.        strong 11th and 12th.

  72. 1992 - Remained with the Fondmetal team,
  73.        qualified in all races, but poor
  74.        engine dashed his hopes. Joined BMW
  75.        and finished sixth in the Italian
  76.        Touring Car Championship.

  78. 1993 - Moved to Alfa Romeo finishing third
  79.        in the Italian Touring Car
  80.        Championship with five wins.

  82. 1994 - British Touring Car Champion
  83.        scoring eight victories for
  84.        Alfa Romeo.

  86. 1995 - Test and reserve driver of the
  87.        Nokia Tyrrell Yamaha team. Alfa
