  16. After graduation from senior high-school,
  17. Ukyo trained as a mechanic at the Tsukuba
  18. Circuit in Japan. That was in 1982 and 
  19. marked the start of his career in motor
  20. racing which saw him switch to driving - 
  21. taking class and championships in FJ 1600,
  22. after winning his very first race from pole
  23. position.

  30. COMPETITION HISTORY

  33. 1985 - Graduated to All Japan F3 Series
  34.        with Nissan Hasemi Motorsports team
  35.        and finished 6th in the championship. 
  36.  
  37. 1986 - After visiting France the previous
  38.        August and breaking the course
  39.        record at the Formula Renault Racing
  40.        School, Ukyo moved to France to
  41.        contest the National Formula Renault
  42.        Series, before moving up to the
  43.        French F3 series in 1987. 
  44.  
  45. 1988 - Returned to Japan to contest the
  46.        Japanese F3000 Championship with
  47.        BA-TSU Racing, finishing 11th. Raced
  48.        at Le Mans 24 Hours for the first
  49.        time with Courage Competition. 
  50.  
  51. 1989 - A busy season with Ukyo in action
  52.        for the Footwork Team in Japanese
  53.        F3000, while entering four FIA
  54.        International F3000 events in Europe
  55.        and the Japanese Touring Car
  56.        Championship.

  58. 1990 - Beginning his successful partnership
  59.        with CABIN, Ukyo finished 5th in
  60.        Japan┤s F3000 Championship with
  61.        CABIN Racing. 
  62.  
  63. 1991 - Ukyo s F3000 championship-winning
  64.        year with CABIN. He scored two wins,
  65.        three runner-up placings and was a
  66.        top-10 finisher in every event, but
  67.        for a single retirement.

  69. 1992 - Performing well in his Formula One
  70.        debut season with Venturi Larrousse,
  71.        Ukyo twice finished in the top-10.

  73. 1993 - With continuing support from CABIN,
  74.        Ukyo moved to Tyrrell for his second
  75.        year season of Grand Prix racing. 
  76.  
  77. 1994 - The season which saw Ukyo┤s
  78.        potential expressed. Strong
  79.        qualifying performance were followed
  80.        by impressive races among the
  81.        leaders.

  83. 1995 - Ukyo drives for Nokia Tyrrell Yamaha
