  4. Flavio Briatore, the progressive and imaginative managing
  5. director of the Mild Seven Benetton Renault team, guided
  6. the team to their first world championship in 1994 and this
  7. year will be aiming to emulate that success by claiming
  8. both the drivers' and constructors' titles.

  10. The team's new partnership with Renault and the reliance
  11. inspired by Michael Schumacher's triumph in the drivers'
  12. championship will help Benetton further establish their
  13. reputation as one of the leading teams in the championship,
  14. according to Briatore. 
  15.  
  16. "The big thing in all sport and in all competition is
  17. confidence." said Briatore, whose innovative management has
  18. been the key to the team's rapid progress in recent years.
  19. "We won the drivers' championship last year thanks to
  20. Michael's brilliant driving, but also to the total
  21. excellence of the team.

  23. "So this year, with that confidence and with the help of
  24. Renault, I am sure we can go for both championships again.
  25. We want to win both and I believe it is a realistic target.
  26. Last year, the team performance was very good - we were
  27. quick in all the tyre stops and won some races in the
  28. pit-lane - and our car finished 95 per cent of the races.
  29. "That is a fantastic record and shows how good the car and
  30. the team are. This year, we can progress again I am sure of
  31. it."

  33. Briatore will this year be building on the success of 1994
  34. when, five years after joining the team, he was able to see
  35. the success of his work in pioneering an entirely unique
  36. style of thinking about Formula One. His new philosophies,
  37. global outlook and firmly-held view that Formula One is as
  38. much about communications, images and lifestyle as
  39. technology or tradition which all contributed to the
  40. team's and Schumacher's success. But they represent only a
  41. part of his overall view. Briatore lives for the future
  42. with Benetton, placing his faith in youth, strength and
  43. excitement and a constant search for ways of improvement.

  45. "This year our ambitions are clear," he said. "We want to
  46. try and win both championships. I believe that with the
  47. Renault engine we can. I have been very impressed with the
  48. fantastic progress of our partnership with Renault already. 
  49.  
  50. "Like us, they are working for the future. They are
  51. well-invested, they have very good people and they have
  52. stability. I feel our B195 with a Renauit engine and our
  53. drivers will be a very difficult package to beat this year.
  54. It is a combination of champions."

  56. Briatore hopes 1995 will see a continuous and virtually
  57. seamless development of the Benetton team with very few
  58. outward changes, other than to the car. "Apart from the car
  59. and the engine, our only other changes will be that we have
  60. the numbers one and two this year," he said.

  62. "We are a young team. We are still learning and last year
  63. we gained a lot of experience. We will be much stronger
  64. now. That experience and the confidence of knowing we can
  65. be champions will be a big help for everyone in every part
  66. of the team."

  68. Italian-born Flavio Briatore lives in London. He leads a
  69. hectic working schedule of ten hours a day and relaxes by
  70. working out at a gym, playing tennis, and spending short
  71. holidays in the sun whenever possible.
