  1. ABOUT THE XARA STUDIO VIEWER
  2. ============================
  3.  
  4. Xara Studio is a brand new 32-bit high performance graphics drawing program. 
  5. It's up to 20 times faster than Corel Draw, is easier to use and displays 
  6. much higher quality graphics than any other drawing program. It also offers 
  7. a range of new features such as transparency.
  8.  
  9. The Xara Studio viewer on this disc allows you to load and display example 
  10. Studio files as well as a range of other type of file, including Corel CDR files, 
  11. and bitmap graphic files so you can see the quality and speed for yourself. 
  12. This CD also includes a ScreenCam 'movie' of the program being demonstrated.

  16. This directory contains:
  17.  
  18. * The Xara Studio graphic file viewer for viewing Studio files and a very
  19.   wide range of other files types including Corel CDR files and bitmap
  20.   files. A selection of clipart is included on this CD and can be easily
  21.   loaded (see below). This program can also be used to view libraries of 
  22.   picture files and preview, install and de-install TrueType fonts.
  23.  
  24. * A multi-media demonstration of the full Xara Studio graphics program.
  25.   Sit back and let us show you what Xara Studio can do (loading instructions
  26.   below).

  28. * On-line details and information about the Xara Studio program.

  30. * Forty TrueType fonts that you can install and use with any Windows 
  31.   applications.
  32.  
  33. Minimum hardware requirements
  34. =============================
  35.  
  36. The Xara Studio Viewer requires a 486 or better, and at least 8MB of RAM.
  37. We would recommend a large swap file (20MB or better).
  38. It runs on Windows 3.1, Workgroups 3.11, Windows NT 3.5 and 3.51 and
  39. Windows 95. It does not run on Windows 3.0.
  40.  
  41. Getting started:
  42. ----------------
  43. Run SETUP.EXE  For more information on installation see INSTALL.TXT.
  44. If you are running Windows 3.x you may need to install Win32s. (SETUP will
  45. tell you if Win32s is not already installed.) To install run SETUP.EXE in
  46. the Win32s directory in this directory.
  47.  
  48. Warning: Wait until the installer says 'Installation complete' before running
  49. the viewer.
  50.  
  51. This viewer will run on, and take advantage of, Windows 95 and Windows NT.
  52.  
  53. Occasionally when trying to install, the installer will say that the script
  54. file is corrupted. Simply run SETUP.EXE again and it should proceed normally.
  55. If the problem persists, try restarting Windows, then installing. 
  56.  
  57. Loading clipart - either use the Clipart gallery in Viewer (click the
  58. Clipart gallery icon) or load the files directly from a File Manager 
  59. window. The clipart on this CD is in the Clipart directory.

  61. To run the multimedia demonstration of Xara Studio - 
  62.   1. Double-click the  'Xara Studio Demo' icon in program manager
  63.      (or Choose the item 'Xara Studio Demo' from the Programs section
  64.       of the Start menu if using Windows 95).     
  65.   2. When the Help file appears, click the button under the Studio logo to
  66.      run the demo.

  68. Using the fonts
  69. ---------------

  71. The viewer comes with a small set of TrueType fonts. You can install them
  72. either by using the Fonts Control Panel, and you can find the fonts in a
  73. directory below this one called (not surprisingly) Fonts.

  75. Alternatively, you can use the Fonts gallery in the viewer to view and install
  76. fonts. For more information, see the viewer help file.

  78. Problems running the ScreenCam demonstration
  79. ============================================
  80.  
  81. If you are having problems with the ScreenCam demonstration not running, or
  82. stopping halfway through, try increasing the amount of virtual memory in
  83. Windows, and make sure you use a permanent swap file.

  85. CDR loading problems
  86. ====================
  87.  
  88. Because this viewer was created from an early pre-release version of Xara Studio,
  89. the CDR loading is still incomplete, and some Corel Draw objects may not be
  90. imported properly (such as text along a curve, for example).
