  68. This package contains Jot Note Manager 1.21, by Michael J Marshall. This
  69. document provides a brief description of the package and how to use it.
  70. More complete documentation can be accessed after this product is
  71. installed.

  73. Do you use MS Cardfile? Do you get totally frustated after entering only
  74. a few lines of data and cannot enter any more? You have hundreds of
  75. fonts on your system, would you like a note utility that lets you
  76. display and print with them? How about printing in multiple columns,
  77. print preview, a toolbar, a search/replace facility?

  79. If this is what you want, then Jot is what you need!

  81. Jot is available in two editions: a 16-bit Windows 3.x edition, and a
  82. 32-bit Windows NT 3.51 edition (also suitable for Windows 95).

  84. Jot is not free; it is shareware. You may evaluate this software for up
  85. to thirty (30) days without charge. If you like the program and wish to
  86. continue using it after the evaluation period, you are required to
  87. purchase a license for the program (see REGISTER.TXT for more details).

  118. The installation procedure for JOT is quite simple.  The
  119. package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which automates the
  120. entire process.  You will need about 700KB of available disk space
  121. on the hard drive on which you plan to install JOT.
  122.  
  123. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  124. JOT.
  125.

  127. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  128.  
  129. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  130.  
  131.    o  Place JOT distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the appropriate
  132.       diskette drive.
  133.  
  134.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  135.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  136.       the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  137.  
  138.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  139.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  140.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  141.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  142.       the JOT files to that directory.  If you received JOT
  143.       on two diskettes, you will need to insert Disk 2 in the diskette
  144.       drive when asked to do so.  If you so direct it, the installation
  145.       program will install executable programs and documentation in
  146.       other directories of your choice.  It will make no other changes;
  147.       specifically, it will not modify your autoexec.bat or config.sys
  148.       files.

  151. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  152.  
  153. If you downloaded JOT from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  154. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  155. following steps.
  156.  
  157.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  158.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  159.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  160.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  161.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  162.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  163.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  164.       the package.
  165.  
  166.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  167.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  168.       the JOT package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS
  169.       command, "c:\tempdir\setup".

  171.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
