  5. Installing FlowCharter 7
  6. -----------------------------
  7.  
  8. 1. Read the Micrografx license agreement provided on the back of the 
  9. jewel case containing the CD-ROM. When you break the seal, 
  10. you automatically agree to comply with the license.
  11.  
  12. 2. Complete and mail the registration card. As a registered user, 
  13. you receive technical support and important product upgrade information.
  14.  
  15. 3. Install FlowCharter 7.
  16.  
  17. To install FlowCharter 7 on Windows 95: 
  18.     a. Start Windows 95.
  19.     b. Insert the CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.
  20.     c. Double-click the CD-ROM drive icon in My Computer.
  21.     d. Double-click SETUP.EXE.
  22.     e. Follow the instructions on screen.
  23.     
  24. To install FlowCharter 7 on Windows NT 4.0:
  25.     a. Start Windows NT.
  26.     b. Insert the CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.
  27.     c. Double-click the CD-ROM drive icon in My Computer.
  28.     d. Double-click SETUP.EXE.
  29.     e. Follow the instructions on screen.
  30.  
  31. To install FlowCharter 7 on Windows NT 3.51:
  32.     a. Start Windows NT.
  33.     b. Insert the CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.
  34.     c. Click the CD-ROM drive icon in the File Manager.
  35.     d. Double-click SETUP.EXE.
  36.     e. Follow the instructions on screen.
  37.  
  38. Please note that with FlowCharter 7 you can utilize run command 
  39. installations including Silent and Autoresponse. The differences:
  40.

  48. You also have the option of recording installation responses for playback. 
  49. To do this, use setup -r. The file generated is setup.iss and is recorded in
  50. the Windows directory. This file can then be placed in the same location as
  51. the file Setup.exe. If you would like to use the recorded file for autoresponse,
  52. make a copy of the setup.iss and name the file setup.inf.
  53.  
  54. Note: FlowCharter 7 supports double-byte character sets. 
  55. This means that if you run FlowCharter 7 on the 
  56. Chinese or Korean versions of Windows 95, you can use 
  57. native non-English character sets.
  58.  
  59. Note about virus checkers: Virus checkers installed with 
  60. "strict" checking prevent you from copying files to the 
  61. hard disk until the checker has gone over the file. 
  62. If you have a virus checker on your system, disable the checker 
  63. or set it to a different mode before installing FlowCharter 7.
  64.  
  65. Note about fonts: Windows requires that fonts be installed 
  66. to the same drive where Windows is located. If your 
  67. computer's hard drive is set up as more than one drive 
  68. (for example, drive C: and drive D:), you can choose 
  69. to install FlowCharter 7 to either drive, but you must have 
  70. enough space available for fonts on the drive that contains Windows.

  72. Installing FlowCharter 7 on a Network
  73. ------------------------------------------

  75. Instructions for installing FlowCharter 7 on a network 
  76. are located on the root of the CD-ROM in an 
  77. uncompressed help file entitled NETREAD.HLP. 
  78. You can access this file from My Computer by double-clicking on its icon.

  179. Adobe Acrobat Reader -- This utility is used to read the ABC FlowCharter 4.0,

  181. \Acrobat folder off the root of the CD-ROM.  To install the Adobe Acrobat Reader,
  182. refer to "Installing the Adobe Acrobat Reader" in this file.

  184. Note: The version of the reader included on the CD-ROM only works 
  185. with Windows 3.1.  If you want a version of the reader that works
  186. on Windows 95 or Windows NT, you can download it from Adobe's web site.

  189. WebCharter -- WebCharter lets you visually map Web sites using FlowCharter.

  193. FlowCharter 7 with the Living FlowChart feature.  We have provided 
  194. documentation on Visual Basic Script on the CD-ROM.  To install the documentation, refer to 
  195. "Installing Visual Basic Script Documentation" in this file.

  198. Installing WebCharter
  199. ---------------------
  200.  
  201. 1  Open Windows Explorer or My Computer.
  202.  
  203. 2  Browse to the WebChart folder on the CD-ROM.
  204.  
  205. 3  Double-click the file called WCInstal.exe. 
  206.    A dialog box appears asking if you want to install WebCharter.
  207.  
  208. 4  Click Yes. The WebCharter license agreement appears.
  209.  
  210. 5  Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
  211.  
  212. 6  The program displays a default directory path. 
  213.    If you want to install WebCharter in a different directory, 
  214.    click the Browse button and select it.
  215.    
  216.    NOTE: You cannot create a new directory during setup. If you want to 
  217.    install WebCharter in a different directory, exit the setup 
  218.    and create the directory.

  220. 7  Click OK. WebCharter installs.

  223. Installing the Adobe Acrobat Reader
  224. -----------------------------------

  226. 1  Open Windows Explorer or My Computer.

  228. 2  Browse to the Acrobat folder on the CD-ROM.

  230. 3  Double-click the file called Acroread.exe. The reader installs.
  231.  
  232. Note: The version of the reader included on the CD-ROM only works 
  233. with Windows 3.1.  If you want a version of the reader that works

  237. Installing Visual Basic Script Documentation

  240. 1  Open Windows Explorer or My Computer.

  242. 2  Browse to the VBS folder on the CD-ROM.

  244. 3  Double-click the file called Vbsdoc.exe. The documentation installs.
  245.  
  246.  
  247. Importing Data from Databases
  248. -----------------------------
  249.  
  250. FlowCharter 7 only supports the importing of data from Microsoft Access databases, 
  251. Excel, and text files. Other ODBC data sources are not currently supported.
  252.  
  253. VB3TO4.EXE
  254. ---------- 
  255.  
  256. The VB3TO4.EXE utility converts Visual Basic form files written using ABCAUTO.VBX 
  257. so that they will use FLOW.OCX (not ABCFLOW.OCX as the utility states).  Refer to the automate 
  258. help file for instructions on converting your forms.  To open the automate help file:
  259.  
  260. 1.  In the \Program Files\Micrografx\FlowCharter folder, double-click automate.hlp.
  261. 2.  Click the Index tab.
  262. 3.  Type:  vb3to4.exe
  263. 4.  Press Enter.
  264.  
  265.  
  266. Opening FlowCharter 7.0c Files in FlowCharter 7
  267. ------------------------------------------------
  268.  
  269. You can open your FlowCharter 7.0c files in FlowCharter 7.
  270. When doing so, remember that FlowCharter 7.0c files have different 
  271. attributes. The following list describes what will not carry over:
  272.  
  273. Arrowheads -- Listed arrowheads 16-55 default back to the arrowhead 1.
  274.  
  275. Repeating Connector Lines -- Connector lines set to repeat on each 
  276. segment will no longer do so.
  277.  
  278. CoolSheet Properties -- All standard CoolSheet properties 
  279. will be lost.
  280.  
  281. Links to Shapes -- Any links to shapes that you have created
  282. will not be available.
  283.  
  284. Mutltiple Links -- Any multiple links beyond the first one that 
  285. you have created will not be available.
  286.  
  287.  
  288. Opening Swimlane Charts in FlowCharter 7
  289. ----------------------------------------
  290.  
  291. FlowCharter 7 will not support Swimlane charts that you create 
  292. in FlowCharter 7.0c.
  293.  
  294.  
  295. Saving FlowCharter 7 Files as ABC FlowCharter 6 or 4.0 Files
  296. ------------------------------------------------------------
  297.  
  298. You can save your FlowCharter 7 files in a file format 
  299. that is readable by ABC FlowCharter 4.0 and ABC FlowCharter 6.
  300. However, when you choose to do that, you should be aware that 
  301. you will lose some of the files' attributes, as described below:
  302.  
  303.  
  304. Gradient Fills -- Shapes with gradient fills will appear 
  305. correctly in ABC FlowCharter 4.0 and ABC FlowCharter 6. However, 
  306. when you open the file in FlowCharter 7 again, the shapes will 
  307. not have the gradient fill attribute set. The shapes will have 
  308. a series of bands that can be individually formatted and colored.
  309.  
  310. Rotated bitmaps -- Rotated bitmaps (not 90 degrees) will appear 
  311. correctly in ABC FlowCharter 6, but when read back to 
  312. FlowCharter 7, the bitmaps will become a series of bitmaps 
  313. defining the mask and the scan lines.  The original 
  314. bitmap will be gone.
  315.  
  316. Scripts -- Scripts will be lost.
  317.  
  318. Lines -- Filled lines will become normal lines. Wide, styled lines
  319. will become hairline. Shadows and 3D effects on lines will be lost.
  320.  
  321. Shadows -- Any shadow not available in ABC FlowCharter 4.0 or 
  322. ABC FlowCharter 6 will be converted to the default shadow. 
  323. (The default shadow appears on the bottom, right of a shape.) 
  324.  
  325. 3D -- 3D attributes are lost.
  326.  
  327. Worksheet -- Worksheet state data will be lost (for example, 
  328. the worksheet window's position and location where you have 
  329. the window docked will be lost, etc.).
  330.  
  331. Allow Styling - You will not be able to change the style of 
  332. objects with multiple fills or lines in ABC FlowCharter 6, 
  333. unless you turn on the checkbox in the Shape Properties dialog.
  334.  
  335. Groups -- Groups are ungrouped; they become individual objects again.
  336.  
  337. Layers -- All layer data will be lost.
  338.  
  339. Pages across and down -- Values are lost, across and down 
  340. are recalculated when an old file is read in.
  341.  
  342. CoolSheets - CoolSheets will be lost, but shapes that 
  343. were placed using a CoolSheet will appear in the correct locations
  344. in ABC FlowCharter 4.0 and ABC FlowCharter 6.
  345.  
  346. Rotated text - Rotated text will appear to be unrotated in 
  347. ABC FlowCharter 4.0 and ABC FlowCharter 6.
  348.  
  349. Links to Internet - Links to the Internet will still work.  
  350. The data specifying the link will be there, but it will just 
  351. launch your browser. Your browser may prompt you to download the file.
  352.  
  353. Saving the Target CoolSheet as an ABC FlowCharter 4.0 file
  354. -----------------------------------
  355. You will not be able to save a Target CoolSheet created in FlowCharter 7 as an ABC FlowCharter 4.0 file. 
  356. Opening this file in FlowCharter 4.0 and dropping a shape will close down the program.
  357.  
  358.  
  359. Activating the 3D effect by default prevents drawing open shapes
  360. ---------------------------------------------------------------
  361. If you set a 3D style, then try to draw a line, FlowCharter 
  362. automatically closes the shape and applies a 3D effect. This situation 
  363. occurs when you select the Draw Tool, then select Jointed Line 
  364. or Curved Line when a 3D effect is turned on.
  365.  
  366. If you want to draw a line without it turning into a closed shape, 
  367. turn off the 3D effect. To do so: 
  368. 1.  Click the 3D button on the Formatting toolbar.
  369. 2.  Click No 3D.
  370.  
  371. Linking to charts on the web
  372. ----------------------------
  373. If you want to link to charts on the web ("trans-web linking"), 
  374. you must install either Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher, 
  375. or WebCharter. 
  376.  
  377. WebCharter is included on the FlowCharter 7 CD-ROM.
  378. When you install WebCharter, you install some files necessary for the support 
  379. of trans-web linking. WebCharter installation instructions are included
  380. earlier in this readme.txt file.
  381.  
  382. If you already have Internet Explorer 3.x or higher installed, you do not 
  383. need to install WebCharter to use the trans-web linking feature.
  384.  
  385. Shapes drawn with solid, normal width lines
  386. -------------------------------------------
  387.  
  388. You may observe some display problems when you have charts containing 
  389. shapes drawn with solid, nominal width lines and you have certain 
  390. Chips and Technologies video drivers. Contact your vendor for updated drivers.
  391.  
  392.  
  393. Installation Problem
  394. ---------------------
  395.  
  396. To install FlowCharter successfully, your storage device (hard drive) 
  397. must support long file names. Windows 95 and Windows NT both support 
  398. long file names by default. You may run into this problem:
  399.  
  400. - If you are running on a Windows NT system and have turned off 
  401.   support for long file names.
  402.  
  403. - If you are using a diskless workstation which uses a network 
  404.   server as your hard drive, and the server does not support long 
  405.   file names. 
  406.  
  407. You must have support for long file names on your system to install 
  408. FlowCharter successfully. If either of the two conditions apply to you,
  409. contact your system administrator for help.
