  8. The Seagate Technical Support Desk Reference system allows you to
  9. instantly look up disc drive specs and jumper settings for ALL Seagate
  10. drives (even models that are no longer in production). It also
  11. contains information on Seagate controllers, technical terminology,
  12. industry phone numbers and much more!
  13.  
  14. The Seagate Technical Support Desk Reference is built as a Windows
  15. Help File with the .HLP extension. Windows recognizes data files of
  16. this type and will auto launch the WINHELP.EXE utility that
  17. accompanies every Windows installation.

  21. To set up and run the Seagate Desk Reference, follow the steps
  22. outlined below:
  23.  
  24. 1) Copy the file STDR0304 to the directory where you would like to
  25.    store the Seagate Desk Reference files.
  26.  
  27. 2) From a DOS prompt, or using the File/Run command, run the program
  28.    STDR0304.EXE (a self-extracting PKZip file).
  29.  
  30.    After you have unzipped the program, you should have the following
  31.    files in your directory:

  35.                  the software: (Assy #705719-018)
  36.    DESKREF .HLP  The Seagate Desk Reference data in Windows Help file

  38.    DESKREF .ICO  Windows Icon file for the Seagate Desk Reference.
  39.                  (#705716-002)
  40.    LETGOTHL.TTF  A TrueType font required to view and print the Desk
  41.                  Reference.
  42.    DESKREF .TXT  This text file that you are reading.

  48. 3) Install the Letter Gothic Line TrueType font
  49.  
  50.    Before you can view the graphics in the Seagate Desk Reference, you
  51.    must load a special Windows TrueType font called LETGOTHL.TTF.
  52.  
  53.    To install the TrueType font in Windows 98 or Windows 95:

  55.    1) Copy the file LETGOTHL.TTF to the \WINDOWS\FONTS subdirectory.

  58. 4) Start the Seagate Technical Support Desk Reference
  59.  
  60.    The Seagate Technical Support Desk Reference (DESKREF.HLP) is a
  61.    Windows Help File. To view this file, all you have to do is open
  62.    the Windows File Manager and double click on the file name.
  63.

  65.    If you want this file to show up as an icon on your desktop, use
  66.    the Program Manager option File/New to create a new program item.
  67.    Then choose "Browse..." to find and select the DESKREF.HLP file.
  68.    Finally, select "Change Icon" and choose "Browse..." to find and
  69.    select the DESKREF.ICO file.

  74. updated with information on new drives, more troubleshooting, and
  75. appropriate miscellaneous material.  The latest copy can always be

  109. THIS IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLC
  110. ("SEAGATE") REGARDING SOFTWARE WHICH YOU MAY INSTALL ("SOFTWARE").
  111. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY.  BY INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE AND ACCESSING
  112. THE SOFTWARE, YOU INDICATE YOUR AGREEMENT TO BE BOUND BY ALL OF THE
  113. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT.  IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE
  114. TERMS AND CONDITIONS, YOU SHOULD EXIT THIS PAGE AND, IF YOU RECEIVED
  115. A CD CONTAINING THE SOFTWARE, RETURN THE SOFTWARE AND ACCOMPANYING
  116. DOCUMENTATION TO SEAGATE.

  118. 1. License Grant.  Seagate grants to you a personal, nonexclusive
  119. license to use one copy of the Software for testing your
  120. hard-drive(s) on a single computer.  You are obtaining no rights in
  121. the Software except those given in this limited license.

  123. 2. Ownership.  The Software is owned by Seagate and/or its
  124. suppliers. The Software is protected by United States copyright laws
  125. and international treaty provisions.  YOU MAY NOT REVERSE ENGINEER,
  126. REVERSE COMPILE OR DISASSEMBLE THE SOFTWARE.  You may not remove,
  127. alter or destroy any copyright, proprietary or confidential notices
  128. placed on the Software or the documentation.  You may copy the
  129. Software solely to make one backup or archival copy.  You may not
  130. copy the documentation.

  132. 3. No Transfers.  You may not sublicense the Software.  You may not
  133. transfer the Software to a third party unless you cease all use of
  134. it, transfer all copies of it and accompanying Documentation, and
  135. the transferee agrees to be bound by the terms of this Agreement.

  156. | LICENSE FEE PAID BY YOU OR $1.  THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND  |
  157. | RISK IS REFLECTED IN THE PRICE OF THE SOFTWARE.   SOME            |
  158. | JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW FOR LIMITATIONS ON CONSEQUENTIAL       |

  162. 6. Term.  Seagate may immediately terminate this Agreement and the
  163. license it grants if you fail to comply with any material term or
  164. condition. Upon such termination you must immediately cease using
  165. the Software and must follow Seagate's instructions regarding return
  166. of the Software. ALL DISCLAIMERS HEREIN SHALL SURVIVE TERMINATION.

  168. 7. Access Outside the United States. You may not download or
  169. otherwise export or re-export the Software or any underlying
  170. information or technology (or direct product thereof) except in full
  171. compliance with all United States and other applicable laws and
  172. regulations. In particular, but without limitation, none of the
  173. Software or underlying information or technology (or direct product
  174. thereof) may be downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported into
  175. (or to a national or resident of) (i) Cuba, Libya, North Korea,
  176. Iran, Iraq, or Rwanda or (ii) any Group D:1 or E:2 country (as
  177. specified in Supplement No. 1 to Part 740 of the US Export
  178. Administration Regulations, or any successor thereto). This Section
  179. 7 shall survive any termination of this Agreement.
  180.  
  181. 8. Miscellaneous.  This is the entire Agreement between you and
  182. Seagate, and supersedes any prior agreement, whether written or
  183. oral, relating to the subject matter of this Agreement.  The parties
  184. disclaim the application of the United Nations Convention on the
  185. International Sale of Goods. The parties agree that the law of
  186. California, USA, excluding its conflict of law rules, shall govern.
  187. Any lawsuit involving this Agreement must be brought in a court in
  188. California, and you hereby consent to jurisdiction in California.
  189. If any provision of this Agreement is ruled invalid, such invalidity
  190. shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this
  191. Agreement.
