- NetHelpDesk - The Network HelpDesk System
-
- INSTALLATION NOTES
-
- For W2K and XP, ensure that you have local
- administrator rights to the PC to install and
- use NetHelpDesk.
-
- NetHelpDesk needs Microsoft's ADO database
- Access software (MDAC) in order to run successfully.
-
- You probably already have this on your PC as it
- comes with MS Internet Explorer and NT Service
- Packs. It can be downloaded for free from
- Microsoft's web site at www.microsoft.com/data.
-
- The installation CD contains a copy of the MDAC 2.5
- downloaded from Microsoft's Web site. It can be
- installed as required by simply double clicking on
- the mdac_typ.exe file on the CD and following the
- on screen instructions.
-
- NOTE on UDL files - and Database location:
-
- There are various ADO .udl files issued with
- NetHelpDesk. These are the connection strings that
- are used to locate your databases. They replace
- ODBC settings used in the past.
-
- You may need to edit these to point at your databases
- if they are not in the default C: drive installation
- folder. Simply double click on a .udl file and it
- will open up Microsoft's ADO editor to let you
- choose the database location and other paramaters.
-
- The MS Access databases can be used straight after
- installation. To use SQL Server, upsize the MS Access
- Example or Empty databases as described in the
- instructions in the help file.
