  5. What is TouchPro?
  6. -----------------
  7. TouchPro is a Windows 95 extension that allows you to modify or "touch", any, 
  8. or all of a file's time & date values. TouchPro integrates seamlessly with 
  9. Windows 95 and appears as an extra dialog box in addition to a file's normal 
  10. property pages.  You can modify multiple file's time & date values by using a 
  11. multiple selection and "Touch" entire selected directory trees.

  13. Installation
  14. ------------
  15. TouchPro is supplied as a compressed file archive. Copy the compressed file to 
  16. an empty floppy disk or new sub-directory on your hard disk & extract the 
  17. files. When you have uncompressed the supplied file, you should have the 
  18. following files in addition to the original:

  30. TouchPro.inf    The Setup Information File

  32. Select the TouchPro.inf Setup Information File in an Explorer window and 
  33. choose File, Install, or right click on the file and choose the Install menu.
  34.  
  35. Installation is quick, merely involving copying of the files to the target 
  36. location on your machine and modification of the relevant registry 
  37. information. TouchPro is now ready to use.

  39. How Do You Use It?
  40. ------------------
  41. Select the files that you want to alter the timestamp on in an Explorer 
  42. window.

  44. Display the properties by using the File, Properties menu, or right click and 
  45. choose the Properties menu item.

  47. With TouchPro installed you will see an extra "Touch" page in the properties 
  48. dialog.

  50. Click on the "Touch" tab to use TouchPro.

  52. TouchPro enters the current date & time as a default, and allows you to alter 
  53. them to whatever you want.

  55. To set the file timestamps just select the file time types that you want to 
  56. change by clicking the appropriate check boxes, and use the "Touch Now" 
  57. button.

  61. The OK, and Apply buttons on the main Property Page dialog do not perform the 
  62. touch operation.

  64. The file's Last Accessed time will change to the current date & time when you 
  65. touch any of the time & date values. Because any file access can alter the 
  66. Last Accessed time, it may be difficult to ascertain that this feature works 
  67. as some Windows 95 shell features access some types of file to determine 
  68. context sensitivity.
  69.  
  70. FAT file systems can not have files dated before 1 January 1980. TouchPro does 
  71. not attempt to catch this particular circumstance as Win32 allows dates before 
  72. this, and future file systems may permit this obscure feature. If you 
  73. currently try to set the time & date to a value before 1 January 1980, 
  74. TouchPro reports the operation has failed in the same as if the file were 
  75. read-only.

  77. FAT file systems have a time resolution of 2 seconds.

  79. Limitations
  80. -----------
  81. Time format is currently 24hr format only.

  83. TouchPro can only alter the "modified" time value for files stored on Novell 
  84. Netware drives.

  88. Use the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs item. Select the TouchPro item 
  89. (listed as "Touch Property Page Extension") and click the Add/Remove button.
