  1. JAVA PERK INSTALL NOTES

  7. INSTALLATION
  8. ============
  9. To install run the setup.exe file and follow the 
  10. on-screen instructions.
  11.  
  12. Run SETUP.EXE and follow the prompts. If Setup
  13. determines that some of the files are already on
  14. the system, or if the software is installed a second
  15. time, the install progress bar won't always go
  16. to 100%.  This is "normal". Also, after the setup
  17. runs there may be an empty button with no caption
  18. on the task bar. Clicking it will make it go away.
  19. This is "normal" too.

  21. If you encounter error messages during installation 
  22. which give you the option to "Abort, Ignore, Retry", 
  23. first retry, then if that doesn't work choose Ignore 
  24. each time it asks you.
  25. When setup completes, it is most likely that Java Perk 
  26. will work, but the applets did not install.  Find the 
  27. applet pack (applets.zip) included with the Java Perk 
  28. evaluation zip file and unzip it into your Java Perk 
  29. directory.  This should do the trick.

  32. Missing DLLs
  33. ------------
  34. If the installation doesn't start and you get a message 
  35. you're missing MFCxxx.DLL, you do not have some
  36. of the standard Windows support DLL files.
  37.  
  38. Under Windows 95, this may have happened because
  39. Win95 was installed with Custom or Compact setup
  40. options. You can nudge Win95 to install the needed
  41. DLLs by installing WordPad. From Control Panel,
  42. click Add/Remove Programs. Click the Windows Setup
  43. tab and double-click Accessories. Scroll down to
  44. the bottom of the list and check WordPad. OK your
  45. way out to complete the installation.
