- Introduction
- ************
-
- This is one of the many Civilization 2-Scenarios which are circulating. In
- this you can play World War One in Central Europe. There are other scenarios
- with this theme, but I wanted to be more realistic (if I have been it in the
- scenario is another question).
-
- In the scenario you can choose one of seven nations: the Russian Empire, the
- German Empire, France, England, Austria-Hungary and the USA; the neutral
- countries are combined as "Neutrals". Belgium, Luxemburg and Italy are played
- by France or England.
-
- I tried to be as much historic and realistic as possible. So for example the
- Germans can attack France through Belgium, but then they come to stay.
- The scenario start at August 1914 and ends at November 1918, when the armistices
- were signed.
-
- I have used the additions you get by buying the "Civilization 2-Scenario-CD",
- I have written an "Events.txt". You are informated about historic things or
- something historic happens (e.g. the declaration of war of the USA or revolts
- in Russia).
-
-
- ************
- Installation
- ************
-
- It┤s provided that you have installated the Scenario-CD. Then only copy the
- files in a directory, there you start the scenario-file.
-
- There are two versions of the scenario, one in german, the other is english.
- In the english version are many mistakes, I think. It was difficult to
- translate all the proper names.
-
- Files for the english version: and for the german one:
- 1_Weltkr.scn 1_Weltkr.scn
- 1_Weltkr.txt 1_Weltkr.ger
- Cities.gif Cities.gif
- Events.txt Events.ger
- Icons.gif Icons.gif
- Iconsb.gif Iconsb.gif
- Pedia.txt Pedia.ger
- Rules.txt Rules.ger
- Units.gif Units.gif
-
- You can also copy the files Readme.txt (Liesmich.ger) if you want to read
- this informations later again.
-
- Of course you can play the scenario if you haven┤t got the Scenario-CD. But
- then you have to do without the historic things of the events.txt.
-
- To install the scenario then, you have to rename the files
- Cities.gif, Icons.gif, Iconsb.gif, Pedia.txt, Pedia.ger, Rules.txt, Rules.ger
- and Units.gif;
- then copy the above named files in your Civilization 2-directory, else the
- files are overwritten.
-
-
- *******
- Changes
- *******
-
- There are many new units, many new advantages and many other changed things.
- I don┤t want do explain all this; you will get to know all the things while
- playing.
-
- There are different advantages and units for the different countries which
- characterize historic facts- for example the Germans often used airships, so
- their airships are stronger then these of the Entente.
-
- As governments I have taken Communism and Fundamentalism. All nations have
- Communism, but I have named it to Monarchy, except the USA- they have
- Democracy. Fundamentalism is named Total Mobilization- total economic
- alignment on war and more propaganda.
-
- There are four Wonders of the World:
- Propaganda - the people was said that war was necessary, so that
- they didn┤t get oppinions again war; original Michelangelo┤s
- Chapel
-
- War Glorification - the people was said that the soldiers had a wonderful
- life at the front, it wasn┤t hard. So the people get
- happy and didn┤t find that war was bad; original
- Hanging Gardens
-
- War Economy - one city only produces things for war; original King
- Richard┤s Crusade
-
- Food Rationalization- food was only given on cards so that there was supply
- left and nobody had to be hungry; original Pyramids
-

- Notes
- ***********
-
- While testing I noticed that many things aren┤t so how I want it- the AI of
- the computer isn┤t glorious, he doesn┤t find weaks in the enemy defense, he
- doesn┤t want to conquer cities. The best way would be to play again human
- player.
-
- Another problem: while setting cities, it was said, that there were to many
- cities. So now France, Russia and Austria-Hungary are sparsely settled. For
- this, some cities are bigger, more productive, than they were in the past.
- This makes especially Russia stronger- it won┤t be so fast conquered like in
- the past. Not so historic. Sorry.
-
- The declaration of war of the USA is useless. The CreateUnit-Command creates
- units, but then there are grafic mistakes. So I tried it with MoveUnits and
- placed some units on a small island. But the computer forifies them so that
- the command does not work. Has anybody a solution for this problem?
-
- You also can┤t use special characteristics of some units: air units can┤t
- transport other units (Transport Airship) and you can┤t use submarines for
- trading (Merchandising Submarine). The same problem with transporting Gas
- granades.
-
- The grafics I have made aren┤t very beautiful. It┤s hard to draw with the
- computer when you haven┤t got a scanner or something like that. The units I
- made look like ... like in a comic. But so they have a special charm.
-
- In the last minute: I┤ve made a small scenario about World War One in which
- it plays all over the world- it is in the directory Mini_ww1. It doesn┤t is
- like real war, but you have fun with it.
-
- I haven┤t said much about real World War One, what happened and so on. This
- would be to much, I think. There are many books about that theme; if you are
- interested, I recommend only to go to the next library.
-
-
- If you have suggestions to make the scenario better or if you only want to
- tell me your oppinion, write me. I haven┤t got an Online-Connection yet.
