  45.     The V7-MERCURY Lite PCI graphic card is a product that offers 
  46.     significantly enhanced features compared to other standard VGA 
  47.     graphic and accelerator boards.
  48.  
  49.       This particularly applies to  
  50.     - higher resolutions    and
  51.         - higher refresh rates.
  52.  
  53.     Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the 
  54.     features provided by the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI, if the other 
  55.         components of your system, especially the graphic monitor 
  56.         that is being used, also comply with the specifications of 
  57.         the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI.
  58.   
  59.     (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the 
  60.     V7-MERCURY Lite PCI can obviously not be used with a monitor 
  61.         that is specified to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

  68.         For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver 'BigWin':

  70.         After the end of the current installation procedure,
  71.         please insert disk "Drivers for Windows" and type:

  79.     Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  80.     for a specific non windows application.
  81.  
  82.     (1) First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MERCURY 
  83.         Lite PCI Superdisk to the hard disk of your system.
  84.     This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the 
  85.         V7-MERCURY Lite PCI Superdisk.
  86.     Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and 
  87.     directories the applications are installed that you want to 
  88.         install    drivers for.
  89.  
  90.     - change to the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  91.     - select the language you prefer,
  92.     - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.   
  93.  
  94.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the  
  95.     applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The  
  96.     User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  97.     supported by the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI.

  101.     ║                    Monitor Selection                        ║
  102.     ╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝

  104.     As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with 
  105.         the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI must comply to the specifications of 
  106.         the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI. Only then can the full functionality
  107.         of the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI be used.
  108.     
  109.     The User Manual and the file \SPEA\GDC\MNTLPCI.BAT provide
  110.     detailed information on how to select and modify the various
  111.     monitor parameters (resolution and refresh rates).
  112.  
  113.                 *** IMPORTANT ***
  114.  
  115.     Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  116.     Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven 
  117.     with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  118.     If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
  119.     and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates! 
  120.

  123.     ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  126.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more VGA boards in one PC at 
  127.     the same time. 
  128.     In case you want to use the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI board in a 
  129.         PC that has a VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, 
  130.         then this integrated VGA interface must be disabled before 
  131.         the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI may be used.
  132.  
  133.     (2) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer 
  134.  
  135.                      "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  136.  
  137.     in their configuration programs.
  138.  
  139.     These options should NOT be selected when using the 
  140.         V7-MERCURY Lite PCI.
  141.  
  142.     Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to 
  143.     guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI
  144.         is being installed.
  145.  
  146.     (3) To keep the compatibility to a lot of monitors, the 
  147.         V7-MERCURY Lite PCI has the possibility do create low 
  148.         refreshrates at high pixel resolutions. Synchronisation 
  149.         problems may in this case occure with high-class multi-sync 
  150.         monitors. To prevent this, please choose the highest 
  151.         horizontal frequenzy as possible with the file MNTLPCI.BAT or 
  152.         while using the windows utility V7SETUP.
  153.  
  154.     (4)    MicroStation Protected Mode:
  155.         The MicroStation Protected Mode driver for the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI
  156.         does not support the 1152x870 8 bit resolution.

  159.     ║                  Notes on Applications                      ║

  162.     Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  163.     available for the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI. These READMEs contain 
  164.         last-minute information not included in the printed documentation
  165.         and information related to known limitations.
  166.  
  167.     These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  168.     the related driver has been selected for installation while
  169.     running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
  170.     the file name extension .DOC .
  171.  
  172.     Use the command  SHOW *.DOC  from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
  173.     display the README file on your screen.

  195.     If you permanently use your monitor with a refresh           
  196.     rate that is too high for your monitor you may damage it!   
  197.     If you are not sure about the monitor frequencies your       
  198.     monitor supports, please inform yourself about the resolution   
  199.     and refresh capabilities in your monitor manual.        
  200.     Please note that you have to adjust the refresh rates again  
  201.     if you change your monitor.

  305. Problems concerning the connection
  306. ==================================
  307. P: You only have a 2400 baud connection, although your modem supports
  308.    higher speeds.                   
  309.                
  310. A: - If the lines are very bad the modem will set the speed on lower level 
  311.    automatically to get an error-free connection.
  312.    Please call again to get a better line or call later when phone net is 
  313.    not so busy.
  314.  
  315. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) this connection is 
  316.    lost.
  317. A: - Check the basics adjustments of your modem as described in the bulletin 
  318.    'Configuring your modem..').
  319.    - Call the lines directly (-93, ...-97).
  320.    - If you work on a modem that supports 2400 Baud only please only use the 
  321.    phone number -97 to make sure that you have no connection with highspeed
  322.    modems. Some 2400 baud modems have problems to communicate with HS modems.
  323.  
  324. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get AT commands 
  325.    on your screen.
  326. A: - The called modem was just in initializing, please call again.
  327.  
  328. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get chars on your 
  329.    screen.
  330. A: - Maybe these faults are caused by bad lines. Please call again to get a 
  331.    better line or call later when phone net is not so busy.
  332.    - The chars appears like impulses? Please check whether there are any 
  333.    impulse counter is connected with your phone line.
  334.          
  335. P: Special chars (e.g. menu frames, lines,..) are not displayed as such ones 
  336.    but as characters or control chars.
  337. A: -The terminal emulation you have chosen in configuring your modem is wrong.
  338.    Select ANSI.BBS (see bulletin 'basis adjustings'). Note: ANSI.SYS has to
  339.    be loaded via CONFIG.SYS.
  340.    -For customers who use the Windows 3.1 tool TERMINAL.EXE: This software
  341.    offers no terminal emulation that shows all ansi sequeces correctly. To
  342.    work nevertheless with this program and our mailbox please select 
  343.    'DEC VT-100 (ANSI)'. Using this emulation the lines, frames,.. are dis-
  344.    played with characters - not correct but readable. So you can altthough 
  345.    work with the menus.
  346.    If you want to have a really correct display you have to use another 
  347.    terminal software. 
  348.  
  349. Problems concerning the download
  350. ================================
  351. P: There is no succesful download: Sending file process will not be started.
  352.    ("No files to send").
  353. A: - You are in the wrong file area now and the file that you desire so cannot
  354.    be found in this file area. (e.g. you want to downlaod FIRE_WIN.EXE but 
  355.    you are momentary in the area 'FIRE AutoCAD Driver'). -> The current file 
  356.    area is displayed in the download menu, right, on the top!
  357.    Using 'B - List of files in the current area' you can check, whether the 
  358.    desired file is available in this file area with the used name.
  359.    -You have not entered the right file name (error in entering).
  360.    -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you 
  361.    have selected in your modem configuration.    
  362.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  363.    Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
  364.    -There are some modems that needs pressing the >PageDown< or >Bild ab<
  365.    key to start the file transfer. So press this key when you have entered >S< 
  366.    for 'Start transfer...'.
  367.    IMPORTANT: Especially with 2400 modem you must be patient - the modems 
  368.    need some time for initializing!
  369.    - Please check: Does the named destination directory exist? Is there
  370.    enough space? Do you have rights to write in this directory (network!).
  371.        
  372.  
  373. P: There is no succesful download: The sending process is cancelled. 
  374. A: -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you 
  375.    have selected in your modem configuration.    
  376.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  377.    Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
  378.    - Select in YOUR modem software  Hardware Handshaking (RTS/CTS) as float 
  379.    control protocol (communication between your modem and your PC) 
  380.    Do NOT select software Float Control (Xon/Xoff)!
  381.    - Deactivate "Compressing data" (V42.bis), all files are already packed 
  382.    files. Further compressing is not possible and there may occure problems 
  383.    or time delays caused by the vain attempts to compress the files.
  384.    - check the speed modem - COM port: If you have the UART chip type 
  385.    8250/16450 you can only use speeds upto 9600 bit/s. For HS modems you 
  386.    better use the chip type 16550 - so are bit rates of 38400 and also 57600 
  387.    bit/s possible! Use COMTEST (available in our mailbox) to check your 
  388.    COM port chip on COM 1 / COM 2.
