  5. contains a few things that didnÆt quite make it into the manual.

  9. directory or on your Deadlock CD. They are in a directory called 
  10. "Docs".

  12. --HELPME.TXT: Up-to-date technical support information, plus 
  13. common problems and their solutions.

  15. --MODEM.TXT: Detailed advice on setting up modem and direct-
  16. connect cable games.

  18. --MANUAL.TXT: The Deadlock game manual. If you like this, boy 
  19. won't you love the printed one!

  34. PLAY ONLINE! If you are using Windows95, be sure to try the "Play 
  35. on TEN" and "Play on Mplayer" Internet gaming options in the 
  36. Multi-game menu. Just imagine playing Deadlock versus six other 
  37. people, worldwide, who might be just as good as you! Players with 
  38. skill levels from beginner to ultra-expert will find the perfect 
  39. match. The sign-up software will get you a new account on Mplayer 
  40. or TEN, plus free access time on these next-generation gaming 
  41. systems.

  44. LAST-MINUTE ITEMS YOU SHOULD KNOW!

  46. CHAT HOTKEYS: There are some handy hotkeys to help you more easily 
  47. send chat messages to your opponents. The message will be sent to 
  48. the opponents you have currently checked in your "Send Chat 
  49. Message" dialog box.
  50.    --Control-I: Send an insult
  51.    --Control-T: Send a threat
  52.    --Control-B: Send a brag
  53.    --Control-C: Send a complaint

  55. COST OF CITY CENTERS: Each City Center you build costs 
  56. progressively more money and resources.  The first City Center you 
  57. build only takes 500 credits, 250 metal, and 50 energy.  The next 
  58. center needs 1,000 credits, 500 metal, and 100 energy, while the 
  59. third City Center costs 1,500 credits, 750 metal, and 150 energy!  
  60. The original base amount is always added into the cost of your 
  61. next City Center.

  63. SETTING PORTS ON THE WORLD MAP: You can set which ocean territory 
  64. your new ships will be in after they are manufactured.  Double 
  65. click on your Shipyard in the settlement map.  Press the SET PORT 
  66. button.  A small map appears; ocean territories that border your 
  67. Shipyard are highlighted.  Choose the ocean where you want your 
  68. port.  When you build a new ship it will appear in this territory.

  70. AUTOSAVE: Because a planet is a pretty complex thing to run, we've 
  71. provided an automatic game save function. If you find yourself 
  72. unable or unwilling to continue your game, you can always reboot 
  73. the ol' PC and load the saved game called AUTOSAVE from your 
  74. Deadlock directory.

  76. PLAY ONLINE! If you are using Windows95, be sure to try the "Play

  81. GAME PATCH: No matter what kind of problem you are having with 
  82. Deadlock, thereÆs a good chance it's been fixed in the patch! A 
  83. patch is a new version of the program which you can get for free 
  84. from Accolade. See the file HELPME.TXT for information on how to 
  85. get and use the game patch.

  87. STRATEGY GUIDE: Did you know that there are some very good 
  88. Deadlock strategy guides available? You can find out more about 
  89. the inner workings that make your colony tick. Get valuable hints 
  90. for planetary domination! Ask your software store for the Deadlock 
  91. strategy guide, or search the Web for more information. The 
  92. Accolade site (www.accolade.com) is a good place to start!

  94. USING DEADLOCK SOUNDS IN WINDOWS: Want to make your computer 
  95. scream a Tarth Juggernaut yell when it boots up? How about a mind 
  96. blast instead of an error beep? In your Deadlock directory is a 
  97. directory called WAV, in which you will find many sounds that you 
  98. can use in Windows. In "Sounds" in the control panel you can make 
  99. Windows use some of these .WAV files. Enjoy!
