  1. Thanks for your interest in SafetyScan, here are a few 
  2. pointers to help you get started right away.
  3.  
  4. 1.This message will only display itself the first time 
  5.   you start SafetyScan, if you need to read through it again, 
  6.   open the file "StartUp.txt" located in the folder that you 
  7.   installed SafetyScan.
  8.  
  9. 2.When you close or "hide" the main screen, SafetyScan will
  10.   reside in the System Tray, located in the lower right corner 
  11.   of your Taskbar next to the clock.  You can access the main 
  12.   screen again by either double-clicking on the miniature 
  13.   magnifying glass icon or right-clicking and selecting "Open".

  15. 3.We recommend placing a shortcut to SafetyScan into your
  16.   startup group so that it will start each time Windows does.
  17.   To do this:
  18.   a. Launch Explorer and find the file safescan.exe. 
  19.   b. Right click on the Windows 95 Start Button and select Open. 
  20.   c. Double Click on Programs, then double click on StartUp. 
  21.   d. With the right mouse button, drag the safescan.exe file 
  22.      into the StartUp window and select Create Shortcut Here. 
  23.      You may rename the shortcut to SafetyScan if you wish. 
  24.   e. SafetyScan will now be ready for action each time Windows 
  25.      starts.

  27. 4.The fist thing you should do with SafetyScan is perform a 
  28.   manual scan and clean of your drive.  To do this:
  29.   a. Click the "Scan Now" button.  This will take a few seconds, 
  30.      depending on the size of your drive and the speed of your 
  31.      computer.
  32.   b. When SafetyScan is done scanning, it will present you with 
  33.      a list of files that it has found that may be cleaned from 
  34.      your drive.  Click the "Clean All" button and watch how much 
  35.      space SafetyScan recovers from your drive!
  36.  
  37. 5.After you have performed your initial scan and clean, you may 
  38.   set SafetyScan to automatically scan and clean files on a 
  39.   regular basis.  To do this:
  40.   a. Click the Options Tab on the main screen
  41.   b. If you are unfamiliar with file extensions, leave the 
  42.      "Files to scan for" options alone, otherwise select the 
  43.      extensions to search for.
  44.   c. Adjust the "Scan Interval" by sliding it back and forth.  
  45.      This is the amount of time SafetyScan will wait in between
  46.      automatic scans and cleans, 30 minutes is adequate.
  47.   d. Select the "Hide" button.  This hides SafetyScan in the 
  48.      System Tray (lower right corner of the screen next to the 
  49.      clock) so that it is out of your way, but still performing 
  50.      it's vital functions.

  52. 6.If you have SafetyScan configured to start at the beginning 
  53.   of each windows session, this message will not appear again, 
  54.   but SafetyScan will run and complete it's scheduled scans and 
  55.   cleans - keeping your drive free of error files automatically!
