  88. Thank you for your interest in Coeli - Electric Planisphere.

  90. Coeli utilizes Super VGA graphics via the VESA standard interface to
  91. generate highly realistic views of the heavens anywhere in the world.
  92.  
  93. However, due to the vagaries of 'standards' in the swiftly changing
  94. world of advanced graphics ( which the IBM PC was never originally
  95. designed to handle ), your system as it is currently set up may not allow
  96. Coeli to function optimally.
  97.  
  98. You should be prepared for possible initial disappointment.
  99.  
  100. But have no fear: with some perseverence you will be able to configure
  101. your system's video so that Coeli's skies display faultlessly.
  102.  
  103. You will need a VESA DRIVER in order to do this.
  104.  
  105. The best universal VESA driver is undoubtedly UniVBE from SciTech
  106. Software.

  108. You may already have a copy of UniVBE - if you're a gamer, you'll
  109. probably have received one bundled with an Electronic Arts title.

  134. version of UniVBE, as Coeli will then be more likely to run problem-free
  135. with your setup, especially if you own a recent Pentium system.

  138. If odd events occur on your screen within the first few minutes of
  139. starting Coeli, don't panic:
  140.  
  141. simply wait until things appear to settle, and then press [ESC]. If this
  142. achieves nothing and the screen data is completely unintelligible, you
  143. may have to reset your computer by either switching off and on again, or
  144. by pressing [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL].

  210.                     INSTALLING COELI - ELECTRIC PLANISPHERE

  213.          Your Coeli package is contained in a self-extracting file.
  214.  
  215.          This file is called COELINST.EXE
  216.  
  217.          Coeli cannot be run straight from HD floppy or CD ROM. To
  218.          install Coeli, just follow these simple steps:
  219.  
  220.          1) first create a new directory on your hard drive from Dos or
  221.          Windows. We suggest you call the directory COELI-3, but of
  222.          course anything will suffice. To accomplish this from the Dos
  223.          command line you would type the following:
  224.  
  225.                 MD COELI-3
  226.  
  227.          In Windows, you would double-click the File Manager icon and
  228.          then select Create Directory from the File menu.
  229.  
  230.          2) Copy all the files from your distribution media into the
  231.          new directory.
  232.  
  233.          3) Switch to the new directory and unpack the main archive
  234.          according to your supplier's instructions (it will probably
  235.          have a .ZIP or .LZH extension).
  236.  
  237.          From the Dos prompt, you might proceed as follows (assuming
  238.          your distribution medium is a floppy disk currently in drive
  239.          A, the supplier's archive is called COELI.ZIP, and your hard
  240.          disk is labelled drive C):

  250.          4) As mentioned, your Coeli package is contained in a
  251.          self-extracting file called COELINST.EXE. Simply run this like
  252.          a normal program from your new directory. All the Coeli files
  253.          will be reconstituted, and you will then be able to delete
  254.          COELINST.EXE from your hard disk, as it will have served its
  255.          purpose.
  256.  
  257.          5) If you have not already done so, install your VESA driver
  258.          by typing its name. If it loads without error, you'll be home
  259.          and dry and all you will need to do is start COELI from the
  260.          Dos prompt or from inside your favourite shell. Coeli runs
  261.          under Windows 3.1 too, but more slowly.
  262.  
  263.          Please note that you should always install a VESA driver prior
  264.          to using Coeli. A universal VESA driver may have been provided
  265.          on the same disk volume on which you acquired Coeli. Otherwise
  266.          please see the end of the manual for suggestions on how to
  267.          obtain one. Coeli 3 will not function without a VESA driver!
  268.

  270.          WINDOWS 95 USERS:
  271.  
  272.          Simply drag COELI.EXE from the Explorer onto the desktop, and
  273.          a shortcut should create itself there with Coeli's own icon.
  274.          If the correct icon doesn't appear, right-click on the new
  275.          desktop icon, select Properties, Change Icon, then Browse.
  276.          While you're about it, go to the Memory tab and ensure 'Auto'
  277.          is visible in all the selection boxes. Check out the Screen
  278.          tab at the same time: Coeli should run as a full screen
  279.          application. Under Program - Advanced, the following boxes
  280.          should have ticks in them:
  281.  
  282.          'Prevent MS DOS-based programs from detecting Windows' and
  283.          'Suggest MS-DOS mode as necessary'
  284.          'Close on exit' should always be enabled.
  285.  
  286.          We recommend that you glance at the manual before proceeding
  287.          further, either the Windows Write version (COELI.WRI), but
  288.          preferably the Ascii version (COELI.TXT).
  289.  
  290.          For example, to access COELI.TXT from Windows, just
  291.          double-click on it under File Manager and it will be displayed
  292.          in Notepad.

  294.          To read the same file under Dos, enter the following at the

  301.          all designed to help you get started with the minimum of fuss.

  578.          If you haven't already done so, please print out a regular
  579.          Coeli registration form by pressing [r] from within the
  580.          program. A copy will be saved with the filename REGISTER.FRM
  581.          in the folder or directory you reserved for Coeli.

  583.          On the form you will notice a line beginning 'Your ref' and
  584.          followed by an ident code. This code is your unique personal
  585.          reference and you will be required to enter or paste it into
  586.          your online customization form in your Web browser. It is your
  587.          order's most important component bar E-mail address and credit
  588.          card!

  590.          When you are ready and have the information to hand, please
  591.          set aside a few minutes to fill out your online customization
  592.          form, and submit it to us. If you have difficulties getting
  593.          your Web browser to mail us, a simple remedy is to attach a
