  25. 1.1 General Information
  26. -----------------------
  27. IMPORTANT!
  28.     Read this README file and all the documentation
  29.     supplied BEFORE you continue the installation.
  30.     These documents contain useful information that will help you
  31.     complete the install procedure as quickly and easily as possible.
  32.  
  33.     Please be aware that you can use the full power of the Diamond 
  34.         FIRE GL 2000/3000 only if the other components of your system, 
  35.         especially the graphic monitor that is being used, fully comply 
  36.         to the specifications for the Diamond FIRE GL 2000/3000.
  37.     (For example : You cannot use the 1280x1024 resolution that is 
  38.         supported by the FIRE GL 2000/3000 with a monitor supporting 
  39.         only resolutions up to 1024x768).
  40.     Dualscreen:
  41.     Please note that both monitors must support the resolution and the 
  42.         refresh rate that you want to specify. You cannot set different 
  43.         resolution values for your two monitors.
  44.  
  45. 1.2 System preparation
  46. ======================
  47.  
  48.     Follow these steps before beginning the installation procedure:
  49.  
  50.     1) If you are upgrading the graphics card in your system, return the 
  51.     display adapter settings back to 'Standard VGA', then remove the graphics
  52.     card to be replaced from your PC.
  53.  
  54.     2) Follow the hardware installation instructions provided with your card
  55.     before beginning the software installation.
  56.     
  57.     If you plan on installing Diamond Autocad productivity tools 
  58.     (BigFocus for ACAD 13 and 3DWin ACAD 13/14), make sure that Autocad 
  59.     release 13 or higher is correctly installed first.

  61.     These drivers have been tested and released with BIOS version 1.54.

  64. 2. Installation
  65. ===============
  66.  
  67.     The installation procedures described below.
  68.  
  69. 2.1 Installing the Windows NT 4.0 Driver
  70. ========================================
  71.  
  72.     Run the EXE (self-extracting) file from WEB or BBS and follow the instructions. 
  73.     Select the 'Custom' option and choose desired options from the list.
  74.

  76. 2.2 Choosing a Monitor
  77. ======================
  78.     For using the full power of your Diamond FIRE GL 2000/3000 board, 
  79.     the graphics monitor you choose should be technically suitable 
  80.     for use with this board.
  81.     In Dualscreen mode, both monitors must support the same resolution 
  82.     and refresh rates. 
  83.     If you specify a single screen configuration,the driver software 
  84.     will automatically switch off the second monitor. 
  85.  
  86.     To select refreshrates in Windows NT click on the 'Display' icon 
  87.     in the 'Control Panel'.
  88.

  94.     Only use settings that your monitor supports. If you specify 
  95.     settings that exceed the ratings specified for your monitor, 
  96.     you may permanently damage the monitor!
  97.     If you change the monitor, first check the ratings of the new 
  98.     monitor and, if necessary, reconfigure your settings accordingly!

  101. 3. Known Restrictions
  102. ======================
  103.     (1) 2 x VGA in one system
  104.     You cannot run more than one active VGA board in a PC.
  105.     If your PC has a VGA adapter on the motherboard and you want to use
  106.     the FIRE GL 2000/3000, you must disable the VGA adapter in the
  107.     PC first.
  108.     Today, most computer systems will automatically select a VGA on the 
  109.     graphics board with priority.
  110.     However, if you prefer using the motherboard-VGA, disable the VGA 
  111.     on the Fire GL 2000/3000 and use the loop-thru cable to connect 
  112.     your VGA on the motherboard and the Fire GL 2000/3000 once the software
  113.     installation procedure has been completed.
  114.     Refer to your manual for more information.

  116.     (2) Boot problems
  117.     The Diamond Fire GL 2000/3000, as any other graphics board, uses 
  118.     a system interrupt. 
  119.     There may be problems because of other components in your system 
  120.     using the same interrupt, or fix-installed interrupts of the 
  121.     motherboard manufacturer - (booting problems).
  122.     Please install your graphics board into another PCI slot, or, 
  123.     in the boot-setup, change the IRQ-value of the PCI slot and then 
  124.     reboot the system.

  126.     (3) Resolution 640x480
  127.     The resolution 640x480 is available with TrueColor (32bit) only.
  128.  
  129.     (4) HEIDI installation. 3D Studio MAX must be properly installed on your
  130.     system AND MUST HAVE BEEN STARTED AT LEAST ONE TIME before HEIDI can be
  131.     installed using the installation procedure.

  134. 3.1 Motherboard Compatibility
  135. ============================
  136.     The Diamond FIRE GL 2000/3000 is designed for motherboards supporting 
  137.     the PCI v.2.0 (or higher) standard. This standard supports and 
  138.     correctly initializes multi-function devices like the FIRE GL 
  139.     2000/3000.
  140.     If your motherboard BIOS does not correctly identify and initialize
  141.     your graphics adapter, the software drivers proivided with the card will not
  142.     function properly.
  143.     A system BIOS update on your motherboard, available from your
  144.     motherboard manufacturer or supplier, may remedy the problem. 
  145.     Alternatively, changing the setting in the check box entitled
  146.     "Use PCI BIOS addresses" ( part of the driver properties ) may 
  147.     rectify the problem.

  150. 3.2 Corrections to the Manual
  151. =============================
  152.     The Win95 drivers have been extended to include 3D specific property
  153.     settings similar to those included in the NT driver. If your printed
  154.     documentation does not contain a description of these new features, 
  155.     please refer to the online documentation file located on this CD.

  159.     Technical support for the installation and configuration of 
  160.     Diamond graphic boards and multimedia products, as well as 
  161.     software updates,
