  20. 1 System preparation
  21. ======================

  23.     Follow the hardware installation instructions provided with
  24.         your system before beginning the software installation.
  25.  
  26.     Refer to the online user's manual or printed documentation
  27.         (if applicable) for a detailed description.
  28.  
  29.     Prior to driver installation, make sure the target operating system
  30.     ( Windows NT 3.51, NT 4.0, or Windows95 ) is correctly installed
  31.     and running.

  33.     If the HEIDI driver for AutoDesk 3DStudio MAX is to be installed,
  34.     make sure that MAX is installed and running before installing the HEIDI
  35.     driver.

  37. 2. Installation
  38. ===============
  39.     The installation procedures described below refer to 
  40.     installation directly from the appropriate driver source
  41.     directory. In the following instructions, substitute the 
  42.     hard disk or removable media drive letter ( for example, C )
  43.     and directory where the driver is located when instructed
  44.     to enter a drive and path below.

  48. 2.1 Installing the Windows NT 4.0 Driver
  49. ========================================

  51.     1. Log in as Administrator, or with administrator priviliges.
  52.  
  53.     2. Click once with the right mouse button with the Windows NT 4.0
  54.     desktop running and nothing selected and then "Properties" to 
  55.     access the NT 4.0 Display Properties page.
  56.  
  57.     3. In the Display Properties page, select "Settings", then
  58.     "Change Display Type..." The current display adapter and driver
  59.     selected will be displayed.
  60.     
  61.     4. Select "Change..." next to the current Display Type. This
  62.     will bring up the Select Device page.
  63.  
  64.     5. Select "Have Disk", and enter the drive letter and directory 
  65.     containing the drivers to be installed. 
  66.  
  67.     6. Once installation has been completed, you will have to reboot
  68.     your computer in order to begin work with the new driver set.

  70. 2.2 Installing the HEIDI Driver for 3DStudio MAX
  71. ================================================
  72.     Note: HEIDI Support is currently only available under NT 3.51 
  73.     or NT 4.0.

  75.     1. Log in as Administrator, or with administrator priviliges.
  76.  
  77.     2. click on the "Start" icon using the left mouse button.
  78.     Choose "Run".
  79.  
  80.     3. Enter the Drive letter and directory where the HEIDI Driver is 
  81.     located, followed by "maxinst" ( For example, "C:\heidi\maxinst" ).

  83.     4. Maxinst will finish installing the HEIDI driver, and changing
  84.     the 3DStudio configuration file to use the new driver.

  86. 2.3 Choosing a Monitor
  87. ======================
  88.  
  89.     In order to make the best use of your Diamond FIRE GL 1000 board, 
  90.     the capabilities of graphics monitor you choose should match those
  91.     of this board.
  92.  
  93.     The monitor refresh rate can be directly selected under Windows NT
  94.     4.0 under display settings.
  95.     
  96.     To select refresh rates under Windows 95, click on
  97.     the 'Display' icon in the 'Control Panel'. Select the 'Settings'
  98.     property page, and then 'Change Display Type...' The current
  99.     Adapter Type and Monitor Type will be displayed. Choose 'Change...'
  100.     next to Monitor Type, and select the monitor type that best
  101.     matches the description of your monitor.

  107.     Only use settings that your monitor supports. If you specify 
  108.     settings that exceed the ratings specified for your monitor, 
  109.     you may permanently damage the monitor!
  110.     If you change the monitor, first check the ratings of the new 
  111.     monitor and, if necessary, reconfigure your settings accordingly!
