  120. ===== Installation =====================================
  121.  
  122. The installation procedure for Mutilate is quite simple.  The
  123. package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which automates the
  124. entire process.
  125.  
  126. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  127. Mutilate.
  128.  
  129. On some systems you may need to download the correct VB5 runtime files
  130. (VB5 runtime files version SP3). If the files are needed on your system,
  131. Mutilate's setup program will display a "missing dll" or "wrong version
  132. of runtime file" message.
  133.  
  134. VB5 runtime files are widely available on the Internet and local BBS's.
  135.  
  136. Here is one site where you can find the files, if necessary:

  139. Use the installation program provided with vb5rtsp3.zip to automatically
  140. install or update the runtime files. Once the runtime files are
  141. installed, begin the Mutilate setup program again.

  144. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  145.  
  146. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  147.  
  148.    o  Place Mutilate distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  149.       appropriate diskette drive.
  150.  
  151.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  152.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, find
  153.       the file "A:\setup.exe" in Windows 95 Explorer and double click
  154.       on it.
  155.  
  156.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  157.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  158.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  159.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  160.       the Mutilate files to that directory.  If you received Mutilate
  161.       on two diskettes, you will need to insert Disk 2 in the diskette
  162.       drive when asked to do so.  If you so direct it, the installation
  163.       program will install executable programs and documentation in
  164.       other directories of your choice.  It will make no other changes;
  165.       specifically, it will not modify your autoexec.bat or config.sys
  166.       files.

  169. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  170.  
  171. If you downloaded Mutilate from the Internet or a BBS (or received it in
  172. the form of archive files from some other source), you will need to
  173. perform the following steps:
  174.  
  175.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  176.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  177.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  178.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  179.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  180.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  181.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  182.       the package.
  183.  
  184.    o  Close all open programs and then execute the "SETUP.EXE" program
  185.       which you have extracted. For example, in Windows 95, if the
  186.       temporary directory into which you have extracted the Mutilate
  187.       package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the file by
  188.       double-clicking on the file, "c:\tempdir\setup.exe" in Windows
  189.       Explorer.
  190.  
  191.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  192.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes

  206. dragging a shortcut to the mutilate.exe file onto your desktop area. To
  207. create the shortcut, right-click on the file 'Mutilate.exe' in Windows
  208. Explorer, and select "Create Shortcut".
