  4. A bug causing that the values for archives (number 
  5. of files, folders and total data size) in the "Disk 
  6. information" dialog box were not displayed 
  7. correctly after rescanning the disk. To get right
  8. values, compress the database - the values are

  22. for newly rescanned disks in the previous 
  23. version of the program. Now it is enough to 
  24. compress the database and the needed information 
  25. is recalculated, so it is displayed for 
  26. all the disks then - there is no more need to 
  27. rescan the disks just because of this matter.

  34. DiskBase can now scan self-extracting archives 
  35. (exe files) of ZIP, ARJ and RAR types (extraction 
  36. of descriptions from archives is not supported yet,
  37. but it is planned for the ZIP archives).

  39. A folder can be now scanned and saved to the 
  40. database as a standalone disk.

  42. A "rescan disk" command was added - this command 
  43. is useful namely when the disk that is to be 
  44. rescanned has a different name than is its volume
  45. label.

  48. may not notice this fact until you try to use 
  49. earlier DiskBase versions to open a database that 
  50. was created or opened by this version.

  53. left part (status line) information about the

  55. in current folder. However, this information is
  56. correct for the newly scanned disks only.

  59. not be freely opened by the unregistered version

  67. Printing: DiskBase did not sort files in folders
  68. when the whole disks were printed. In this
  69. version the sorting for this case was added to
  70. the program; files are sorted according to the
  71. criteria set in the Program Settings dialog box.

  73. If the disk size was greater than 2 GB
  74. (gigabytes), DiskBase did not show the size
  75. properly. As the disk free space is also checked
  76. when saving data to database, the database could
  77. not be placed on disk which had more than 2 GB of
  78. free space. These problems are removed in this
  79. version.

  81. You can now switch off the scanning of volume
  82. names for the "Scan disk" dialog box (scanning of
  83. volume names can take pretty long time when using
  84. CD-ROM changer, for example). See Help for
  85. detailed explanation.

  87. The Scan Disk dialog box was redesigned; now it
  88. is sizable, so if the names of the disks are too
  89. long, you can easily enlarge it.

  91. In some rare cases the Windows language driver
  92. may not function properly. You can now switch off
  93. using the Windows language driver by DiskBase.

  111. Maximum size of description is now set in bytes
  112. (instead of kB) and the minimum value is now 100
  113. bytes (originally it was 1 kB which was too

  117. arithmetic used for calculation of kB and MB from
  118. bytes; 1 kB can be either 1024 bytes or 1000
  119. bytes.

  121. In the 32-bit version the language script for
  122. fonts could not be set - only the default one was
  123. used. This problem was corrected, so the proper
  124. language script can be used.

  126. The [Home] and [End] key functions in the file
  127. display were corrected.

  133. renamed if the change was in the character case

  138. for example) the date was not properly displayed.

  140. use the Windows system Short Date format was
  141. added to Program Settings.

  143. In the 32-bit version the folders with the Hidden
  144. attribute set were not put to the database (for
  145. example the folder with cache files of Internet
  146. Explorer). Corrected.

  148. Default folder for opening the database files is
  149. now taken from the "Open database at startup"
  150. specification (if set).

  175. This is the first English version of DiskBase.
  176.  
  177. You could not hear about earlier versions as till
  178. version 4 the program was available in Czech
  179. language only. The history of the program began
  180. in 1991, when it was formed as a collection of
  181. command-line utilities rather than standalone
  182. program. The first commercially successful
  183. version was version 4, released in 1994. The
  184. version 5 is the first version for Windows and
  185. was released in 1996 in Czech language and
  186. translated to English version in 1997.

  188. The program in the Czech version is called
  189. QuickDir from the very beginning. However, before
  190. doing the translation to English language we
  191. found that a shareware of the same name already
  192. exists (a DOS file manager), so we decided to use
  193. the DiskBase name for the international versions
  194. in order to avoid misunderstandings.
