  17. 1. Brief description
  18. --------------------
  19. DiskBase is disk cataloging program. Enables to store names of files 
  20. and folders from a disk (floppy, CD-ROM, ZIP etc.) to a database with 
  21. powerful search capabilities. Names in archives like ZIP, RAR, ARJ can 
  22. be extracted and stored too. A description can be attached to any folder
  23. or file in the database. The description can be made either manually,
  24. or constructed automatically from the file contents.

  26. Unlike other disk cataloging programs that show disk contents as one
  27. long flat list of files, DiskBase offers common user interface with
  28. a tree and a list of files in the current folder displayed. There is
  29. also no need to install any database engine in order to run the
  30. program.

  32. Exists in 16-bit version for Windows 3.1x and 32-bit version for
  33. Windows 95 and Windows NT 4. Long file names are supported in the
  34. 32-bit version.

  36. Please note that this program is distributed as a shareware and you
  37. may use it for a one-month evaluation period only. If you find it
  38. useful and want to continue using it after that period, you must
  39. purchase it.

  43. 2. Installation
  44. ---------------
  45. The program is distributed in two files: SETUPxx.EXE and
  46. DSKBASxx.ZIP, where xx is 16 or 32 (indicates 16-bit or 32-bit
  47. version). Do not unzip the DSKBASxx.ZIP file manually; the 
  48. SETUPxx.EXE program unpacks the contents of the DSKBASxx.ZIP 
  49. file into a specified folder and creates icons in Program 
  50. Manager or items in the Startup Menu.

  52. Note for Windows 3.1x: 
  53. The program requires the "ctl3dv2.dll" file to be present in 
  54. the \windows\system folder. This file is not a standard part 
  55. of Windows, but it is added to Windows by most of the recent
  56. Windows programs, so it is highly probable that you already have it
  57. installed. If not, the installation program SETUPxx.EXE will not run
  58. and will announce that this file is missing. Then you must manually
  59. copy the file into the System folder of Windows. You will find this
  60. file in the "ctl3dv2.zip" file. 
  61. This applies only for Windows 3.1x, not for 95s and NTs.

  65. 3. Uninstallation
  66. -----------------
  67. The installation does not require anything else than the above
  68. stated: normally it does not put any files into the Windows system
  69. directory, it does not modify any system profile file like WIN.INI
  70. nor the Registration Database. So it is very easy to remove the
  71. program from your PC, if you do not like it. You just delete the
  72. icons (or menu items) and then the folder with the program.

  80. multiple licenses. See program Help for details and ordering

  85. 5. Trial Use License
  86. --------------------
  87. DiskBase is not freeware and it is not in the public domain. It is
  88. sold through the shareware market. As such, you may evaluate the
  89. program for a period of one month free of charge. If after that time
  90. you decide to continue using DiskBase, you must purchase it (i.e.
  91. register it).

  93. The only exception is using the unregistered version of DiskBase for
  94. viewing the contents of read-only Diskbase databases, created by
  95. a third party. Such use is legal without any time limitation and any
  96. requirement to purchase it.

  98. DiskBase and its accompanying documentation are protected by the
  99. Copyright law and also by international treaty provisions.
  100. Unauthorized reproduction or distribution of this package, or any
  101. portion of it, may result in severe civil and criminal penalties.

  103. You may not use, copy, rent, lease, sell, modify, decompile,
  104. disassemble, otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the licensed
  105. program except as provided in this agreement. Any such unauthorized
  106. use shall result in immediate and automatic termination of this
  107. license. All rights not expressly granted here are reserved to Zdenek
  108. Martinek, the author of the program.

  112. 6. Distribution License
  113. -----------------------
  114. The distribution requirements are the following:
  115.  
  116. - Only unregistered version of DiskBase (herein called the Software)
  117. can be distributed. It is expressly forbidden to distribute any
  118. registered or cracked version of the Software.
  119.  
  120. - Only complete and unmodified package of the Software can be
  121. distributed. Neither the distributor nor anybody else is permitted to
  122. make any extraction, modification and repacking of the package
  123. contents, created by the author of DiskBase. The only permitted 
  124. modification is adding a short zip comment about the distributor to 
  125. the zip file.

  127. - If the user pays for the Software, he/she must be clearly informed,
  128. that the payment is just for distribution, not for any right to use
  129. the Software.

  131. Any distribution satisfying all the distribution requirements
  132. expressed above is hereby authorized. No explicit permission from the
  133. author needs to be acquired in order to make authorized distribution
  134. of the Software.

  136. Any other copying or distribution is unauthorized and as such is
  137. expressly forbidden. You may be held legally responsible for any
  138. copyright infringement which has been encouraged or caused by the
  139. failure to abide by the terms of this License.
