- The following files are not included in the online versions of the
- Test Drive.
-
- If you have downloaded this Test Drive from an online service such as Compu-
- Serve, America Online, an Internet ftp site, or a BBS, you may need to
- download the following files and copy them to the directory listed:
-
- Name on Diskette Name of ZIP file Name of File Directory installed into
- ---------------- ----------------- ------------ -------------------------
- DIW.HL_ DIWHLP.ZIP DIW.HLP DataImport (C:\DIW)
- VBRUN300.DL_ VBRUN3.ZIP VBRUN300.DLL SYSTEM
-
- VBRUN300.DLL is required to run DataImport. However, since this file may
- already be on your PC, you should check your "SYSTEM" directory for
- VBRUN300.DLL before downloading it.
-
- If you wish to remove DataImport from your computer, check the file
- INSTALL.LOG located in the directory that contains the DataImport
- program files. INSTALL.LOG lists which files were loaded onto your
- system and which were not. If a file was not loaded, it was because the
- file already existed on your computer and was the same version or later.
-
- The files in the last section above are Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs)
- and Visual Basic Extensions (VBXs), which may be shared by multiple
- software programs. Some of these files may have been copied to your
- system when DataImport was installed. If you delete any of these files
- you may get an error message when running other software that was
- installed after DataImport. That software could be using a DLL that
- DataImport installed. You would then have to install the file(s) from
- the diskettes provided by the other software program.
-
- To limit the amount of disk space required, the Test Drive does not ship
- with all of the DLLs required for all of the output types. The additional
- DLLs can be downloaded from either:
- - CompuServe: GO SPALDING, LIB 2, or
- - Internet Web site: http://www.spaldingsoft.com/
-
- Below is a list of the output types and the files that must be
- downloaded to output to that type:
-
- Excel 5.0 XLDLL.ZIP
- Access 1.1 & 2.0 ACCDLL.ZIP
- Paradox 3.5 & 4.0 PDXDLL.ZIP
-
- After downloading the ZIP file, unzip the files using PKZIP 2.04g or
- equivalent and move the files into your Windows "SYSTEM" directory.
-
- You may not need to download these files to use DataImport with your
- spreadsheet or database. Excel 5.0 will read Excel 2.1, 3.0 & 4.0 as
- well as Lotus 1-2-3 files. Access can use dBase files directly; and
- Paradox will import dBase files.
-
-
- New Features:
-
- DataImport 5.0 for Windows has some additional features not available in
- DataImport 4.0.
-
- TASK COMMANDER is a new program to automate the running of Translations,
- Utilities and other Windows programs that can be run with Command Line
- parameters.
-
- The Task Commander allows you to define "Tasks". Tasks are command line
- instructions stored in a file that have an extension of ".tsk". These Task
- files are much like Batch files under DOS.
-
- A Task could be:
- 1) a list of translations to perform when you get a new input file; or,
- 2) it could automate the running of an EBCDIC-to-ASCII Utility, and then a
- Translation; or,
- 3) it could automate a multi-pass translation, where the first pass
- unstacks or removes unwanted records and the second pass creates the
- true output file.
-
- From the Task Commander's screen you can create, edit and run tasks. Just
- run the Task Commander from the icon and you can select which task to run.
- You can even select multiple tasks using the standard CTRLed and SHIFTed
- mouse clicks.
-
- And, using the Task Commander's command line you can launch tasks from an
- icon or from products such as WinBatch. The syntax for Task Commander's
- command line is:
-
- DITASK taskfile
-
- where taskfile is the name of the .tsk file.
-
-

- user modified.
-
- Text Block - keeps adding data from multiple lines in a
- column into the same cell (or field) during
- translation until the next line is to be
- output or a blank cell in the column is
- encountered.
- - or you set how many lines should be in
- the block.
-
- Text (Left Justified) - removes spaces from beginning of the text

- * Added a "Clear after outputting" flag for each Reference Point. We can now
- handle data like the following, by setting a Reference Point on each line's
- type text and setting the flag on the on the Reference point for the ADDR2
- line:
-
- NAME: Spalding Software, Inc.
- ADDR1: 154 Technology Parkway
- ADDR2: Suite 250 (this line not always present, set flag)
- CITY: Norcross STATE: GA ZIP: 30092

-
- Notes:
-
- - dBase, Access, Paradox, Clarion
-
- When DataImport "creates" a database file, it also creates the
- field header information. The field header information is
- information held in the database file that holds the field names,
- types, widths, etc. It uses the Column Name for the Field Name for
- each column, this name defaults to the Column Letter. The field
- widths are set to be the width of the column. The field types
- are set to the Column Type and also by checking the data within the
- column.
-
- When DataImport "replaces" a database file, it only replaces the
- data records in the file/table. It DOES NOT replace the field
- header information. This information is necessary for programs to
- access the information within the database file. If DataImport
- were to change this information, your program would not be able to
- read the data in the file
-
- - Excel, dBase, Access, Paradox
-
- The different versions of each of these file types share the same file
- extension: XLS for Excel, DBF for dBase, MDB for Access, DB for
- Paradox. If the output file exists, DataImport checks the type of
- the existing file to set the file type for the translation. If you
- want to translate to the same output file name but with a different
- version of the file type, you should first delete the existing
- output file.
-
- - Excel 5.0 & 7.0(95):
-
- You can set the sheet name on the Options Global dialog box. The
- default sheet name is "Sheet1". If you are appending or file-
- combining into an existing Excel 5 workbook, the sheet name must
- exist.
-
- - Lotus 5.0 for Windows
-
- Lotus 5.0 uses the same file format (.WK4) as Lotus 4.0 for
- Windows.
-
- - INI Settings
-
- Adding CustomCursor=0 in the [Preferences] section of DIW.INI
- (found in the Windows directory) will turn off the custom cursors.
- The custom cursors (or mouse pointers) are the highlighters and
- hands on the Mask Window. This may be necessary with some high
- resolution video drivers. They will be replaced with normal arrow
- pointers.
