- 1...System Requirments
-
- A PC or XT system with at least 512K of memory and a
- hard drive. This program will run from a high desity floppy but it
- is very slow running. EGA/VGA color recommended.
-
- 2...Program Installation
-
- Make a directory to hold the all of the Frequency Minder
- files. Then copy all of the files to that directory. The files that
- you should have are:
-
- FREQHELP.HLP Online Help
- FREQLIST.EXE The Program
- FREQS .DAT Example Data File
- FREQS .K01 Key File
- KEYWORDS.DAT Example Data File
- KEYWORDS.K01 Key File
- REGISTER.EXE Registration Form
- MANUAL .EXE This File
- README .1ST Last Minute Notes
-
- If you wish to use the program and enter your own data,
- then delete all of the .DAT and the .K01 files. If you wish to use
- the example keywords, then delete the two FREQS files. If you
- begin the program without the example data files, new files will be
- created for you. The frequencys listed in the example data files
- are accurate for the San Luis Obispo County area.

- 3...Entering Data
-
- To begin entering data, start the program. Press INSERT
- and you will be presented with an entry window. (If you began the
- program with new data files, you will be taken directly to the
- entry window). Data entry is primarily a "fill in the blanks"
- operation. First field is for the frequency. Entry is from right
- to left, and you must put in trailing zeros. IE 460.375 would
- enter as 460.3750. Putting in the decimal point by hand is
- optional. Presing ENTER will move you to the next field. The
- other fields, Agency, Location, County and Usage are
- self-explanitory. Fill these in with the information that you
- feel is pertinant. If you make a mistake during entry, use the
- backspace and delete keys to make corrections. When you reach the
- keyword field, you will be presented with a list of keywords to
- choose from. If you do not find the keyword that you wish to use
- for an entry, press INSERT to add a new keyword to the list.
- Otherwise, highlight the keyword you want to use, and press the
- ENTER key. At any time during the entry of data, you can press F1
- and recieve context sensitive help.
-
- [a] Entry Keys
-
- ENTER Terminates a field entry and moves on to the
- next field.
- ESC Backs up a field.
- INSERT Toggles insert/overstrike mode.
- DELETE Deletes characters at the cursor postion and to
- right of the cursor.
- CRTL-ESC Aborts the entry without saving
- ARROWS Left and right arrows move left and right
- within the fields. Up and down arrows move up
- and down within the entry form.

- [b] Editing Entrys
-
- To edit an existing entry, on the main screen, locate
- the entry that you wish to modify. This can be done with the
- frequency locator box, or with the PAGE-UP or PAGE-DOWN keys. To
- use the frequency locator box, simply begin entering the
- frequency that you wish to find. The highlight bar will be moved
- to the entry that most closely matches what was typed in the
- locator box. The locator box is always active and you can type
- information into it at any time. When you have the desired record
- highlighted, press the ENTER key, and the entry form will appear
- filled in with the selected entrys data. You may then change any
- field with the above listed editing keys.
-
-
- [c] Deleting an entry
-
- To delete an existing entry, locate the entry that you
- wish to delete, selecting it with the highlight bar. Then press
- the DELETE key. The full record will be shown to you, to allow
- you to verify that that is the record you wish to delete. Press
- ESC to abort, press ENTER to delete the record. You cannot
- recover a deleted entry.
-
- 4...Searching for Data
-
- Searching for data is a fairly simple proposition. In
- Version 1.10, lists can only be looked up by keyword. Press F2 on
- the main screen to bring up the keyword list. Highlight the desired
- keyword and then press ENTER. You will be shown a list, ordered by
- frequency, of entrys attached to the selected keyword. Entrys here
- can be edited, deleted, and new entrys can be inserted. New entrys
- need not be attched to the selected keyword. New entrys made with a
- keyword different than the selected keyword will not show up on the
- search table. New entrys made using the selected keyword will. See
- Entering Data for information on how to edit, add new, and delete
- entrys on the the search screen.
-
- 5...Printing Reports
-
- Two reports are available in Version 1.10 of the
- program. You can print a full frequency list, or you can print a
- partial list by keyword. To print a full report, press F3 from the
- main screen. To print a partial report by a selected keyword, press
- F2 from the main screen to bring up the keyword list, select the
- desired keyword and press return. Then press F3 to print the list
- shown on the screen. You will be prompted at both print options for
- wether or not to continue or abort the print process.
