- ARLS033 STS-57 update
-
- The launch of Space shuttle STS-57 has been re-scheduled for the
- week of June 14-18 because of a problem with the pump on the Shuttle
- main engine. Pilot Brian Duffy, N5WQW, and Mission Specialist
- Janice Voss (awaiting her call sign) will be working the Shuttle
- Amateur Radio EXperiment.
-
- The SAREX Working Group (representatives of ARRL, AMSAT and Johnson
- Space Center Amateur Radio Club) has received inquiries about the
- small number of general QSOs made during recent SAREX missions.
-
- SAREX's secondary payload status, as well as the need to conserve
- power for extended missions places unavoidable limits on SAREX
- activities. Packet is used when the crew is busy with primary
- payloads, and it cannot be operated during other SAREX activities.
-
- The SAREX Working Group may add a very limited schedule for general
- QSOs in addition to any random times the crew can operate. The
- earliest this could happen is on STS-58, this fall. We will keep
- you posted.
-
- Monitor W1AW in the next few days for more details about the
- STS-57 launch.
