  2. Welcome to the Tele - Port ][ Packet Port!  Packet Port (PP) is an idea
  3. that the assistant sysop (Al - AA5KG) thought up one Saturday afternoon
  4. while having a few beers and packeteering around the bands.  Gee, I
  5. thought, wouldn't it be great if I could only tie my TNC into the Land-
  6. Line BBS so fellow hams who don't have TNCs but have a phone modem could
  7. call and access packet via landline?  So, off I went digging through all
  8. the programming books I could find and asking lots of questions on the
  9. national FIDO Packet Radio Echo...  Could it be done?  Well, as the old
  10. saying goes, If their is a will....  Anyhow, to make a long story short,
  11. I finally ran across a sysop of a system in Canada who was doing just what
  12. I had in mind.  He was even nice enough to let me download a copy of his
  13. port driver software!  So there you have it, Packet Port was born.

  15. * What is Packet Port?
  16.  
  17. Packet Port allows you, a licensed Amateur, the ability to access packet
  18. radio via your computer and telephone modem.  You have total access to
  19. my packet station of a KAM TNC, Kenwood TM-221A 2 meter (45 watt) FM
  20. transceiver, an 11 eleven element 2 meter yagi at 40 feet, and when I'm
  21. able to be on hand, a Yaesu HF transceiver tuned to 7091 Khz packet on 40
  22. meters.  Remember, to access 40 meter packet, you need to hold a General
  23. class or higher license.

  25. * How do I access Packet Port?

  27. First, you need to select S)ignup from the previous menu.  There, you will
  28. need to answer a few questions and enter your callsign information.  When
  29. you signup, please have the following information on hand:

  31.           () Your FULL NAME as it appears on your license
  32.           () Your FULL ADDRESS as it appears on your license
  33.           () Your license issue and expiration dates
  34.           () Your license class and callsign
  35.           () Your telephone number for verification/notification

  37.  Due to the legal requirements of Amateur Radio operation, you will also
  38.  have to agree to abide by all FCC requlations governing Amateur Radio.
  39.  Your use of Packet Port constitutes this agreement.  After I have reviewed
  40.  your signup information, and possibly called you via the telephone number
  41.  you entered (in case I don't know you or have to verify any information),
  42.  I will enter your information into the Packet Port User File.  From then
  43.  on, you will have access to the TNC.
