- Codeless Technician License does not require Morse Code expertise. In order
- to obtain more privileges in the amateur radio spectrum you will need to learn
- Morse Code. Our past experience has shown that most people attempt to learn
- CW at the speed necessary to pass their next examination. If you need to
- pass a 5 WPM (words per minute) exam you will need to learn 7 WPM , likewise
- to pass 13 WPM you will need to learn 15 WPM, & 18 WPM requires you learn at
- 20 WPM. What usually happens is that the individual learns code 3 times, first
- at 7 WPM then at 15 WPM, and finally at 20 WPM. Because it is simpler to learn
- code once we strongly urge you to learn and practice your code at 20 WPM. I
- can see the foreheads frowning now! 20 WPM ??? YES!!! Study for 15 minutes a
- day and make it a steady practice. You are not going to break any speed record
- when you do accomplish 20 WPM. Most good fists are in the 20-35 WPM range.
- By learning the first time to do 20 WPM you can sit down for your exams and
- comfortably pass through all the code requirements. You do not have to love CW
- to learn CW! I in particular do not care for CW, however there are times that
- CW is the best mode available and I have even tapped out information by mike
- button that was otherwise unreadable by voice. You will understand later....
