  39. With versions of the OS before 2.1 Commodore supplied text-to-speech
  40. software on the Workbench discs. This library replaces the Commodore
  41. supplied translator library. The origional translates text to phonemes
  42. for use with the narrator device. It is used in software with speech
  43. output such as "Say" and "Term".

  45. Unfortunately for non-American users the origional library translates
  46. all text as if it were American English. It can not handle other
  47. languages or dialects.

  49. This library is a drop-in replacement and works with all software that
  50. currently uses the Commodore speech system.  With this version of
  51. translator library the user can specify which language the translator
  52. should use.  The following accents are currently supported by this
  53. library:

  69. If your language is not represented it is not difficult to write
  70. translation files for other languages as can be seen by the above list.
  71. I only wrote a few of these. I hope that users of this system will be
  72. motivated to create accent description files for the language(s) they
  73. speak.

  76. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  77.  
  78. Requires any version of the OS greater than 1.3.  Some features are
  79. not supported on pre-2.04 systems and systems without the locale
  80. library.

  82. To be of any practical use it requires any version of the narrator
  83. device and software that talks.
