  8. --- CADAVER & THE PAYOFF Hard Disk Installer & Patcher ---

  10. This installer requires the Cadaver ORIGINAL disks (there are 2+1 for The Payoff).
  11.  
  12. The HD-Patched game will need about 2Mb of FAST memory and 0.5Mb of
  13. any other memory.
  14. It should work on ALL Kickstarts and ALL CPUs (up to '060).
  15.  
  16. Work done:

  18. - Patched the game to run from HD (RAM, actually)
  19. - Two versions supported: V0.01 and V1.03
  20. - Convenient installer script
  21. - Patched game (V0.01) to avoid crashes with 68020+ CPUs
  22. - Removed copy-protection for V0.01 (that crashed the game too). Don't know for V1.03
  23. - Quit key (F10)
  24. - Load/Saves from/to HD or floppy. Compatibility between saves of both versions on HD.
  25. - Tool to rip the saves from floppies (V1.03 saves only).
  26. - Complete walkthrough provided for both level disks, from Steve Kelly, the Bitmap Brothers.
  27. - Added my name instead of 'Loading Game Please Wait', since you no longer have
  28. to wait :-)

  30. Version 1.0 was really a first try. This version is definitively better :-)

  33. If the game still crashes on load/saves *FROM HD* with V0.01, please let me know.
  34. I heard about many crashes for Blizzard 68030 cards.

  37. You can modify the installer script to install disks from DF1:, DF2: or DF3: instead
  38. of DF0: by changing the unit in the disk2file arguments.
  39.  
  40. To run Cadaver, original version, click on the CadaverHD icon.
  41. To run Cadaver, the payoff levels, click on the PayoffHD icon.
  42. (obviously you need the Payoff level disk for this one :-) )

  44. WARNING:
  45.  
  46. You have to take care if you use the save to HD option. Do not run the game with a copyback
  47. cache on your disk, or on a partition using a copyback filesystem (AFS). This could unvalidate
  48. your HD if you quit by a reset or if the game crashes afterwards.
  49. It never happened to me, but...
  50. If you are scared, either install the game on a partition you dont mind or RAM: if you've got
  51. enough (or copy the loader in RAM: and make soft links to the diskfiles).

  53. You can disable the HD load/save by using the NOOSSWAP tooltype/argument.
  54. The saves will be stored on floppy, as before.
  55.  
  56. You must have at least 3MB of memory to be able to save/load from HD (and to quit)
  57.  
  58. BUGS:
  59.  
  60. In V0.01, when saving or loading with floppy, there were crashes (original game) on
  61. some users machines. I never noticed one but I hope the HD saves
  62. will solve the problem for those unlucky users.

  68. for 680x0 or write HD-Installers (NOT FOR CRACKED VERSIONS).

  85. This patch can be distributed freely, but I'd appreciate that you drop me a line
  86. if you include it in a coverdisk or PD collection.

  88. However, FFD (France Festival Distribution) is not allowed to include it in any
  89. of its PD disks (if you read usenet in fr.comp.sys.amiga, you'll know why).
  90. It's the only exception for the distribution.
