  6. This is a mount scripts collection for ZIP drives.

  17. Why another mount scripts collection for ZIP drive? Well, I actually have a
  18. ZIP drive, and all mount scripts I've seen don't work properly.
  19.  
  20. The mount script from HiSoft for Amiga using FFS, have a correct number of
  21. sectors defined but some programs thinks that the number of sectors are
  22. greater than the real number of sectors, there aren't reserved blocks, and
  23. for this reason, there are problems with disk checking or optimization
  24. programs.

  26. HDToolBox from OS 3.0+ recognices a ZIP disk like a hard disk with 2891
  27. cylinders, 68 sectors per block and 1 surface, this definitions are wrong,
  28. a ZIP disk have a total of 196608 sectors and with this configuration we
  29. have 68 * 2891 = 196588 sectors (a little less). ZIPMount_12.lha and
  30. ZipAFS.lha both from Aminet have the same definitions reported by HDToolBox,
  31. with ZipAFS there isn't big problems, but with ZIPMount we can't access to
  32. all possible information in a ZIP disk in MAC or PC format.

  34. Other mount scripts I have found for MAC or PC ZIP disks have definitions
  35. like 196608 cylinders with only a sector on each one, this will work without
  36. any problems but if you want to format a ZIP disk in MAC or PC format, this
  37. will take about 2 hours to complete.

  39. Installation:

  41. Copy the icons to your "SYS:Storage/DOSDrivers" folder, or to
  42. "DEVS:DOSDrivers" if you want the drive to automount, and modify the icon
  43. tooltype "DEVICE=YOURscsi.device" to show the name of your real scsi device
  44. name.

  46. Definitions of the mount scripts:

  48. ZIP disk = 196608 sectors
  49.  
  50. 196608 sectors / 2 sides = 98304 sector by side.
  51.  
  52. 98304 sectors by side / 64 blocks per track = 1536 cylinders
  53.  
  54. Why 64 blocks per track? Well this is because the greater number factor of 2
  55. to divide 98304 is 64.
  56.  
  57. Why the lowest possible number of cylinders? (1536) This is because the
  58. format command is faster with less cylinders.

  60. Known bugs:

  62. I can't format a ZIP disk in PC format using CrossDosFileSystem with any
  63. PC mount script. Is this a problem of CrossDos? If you can format a ZIP
  64. disk in PC format, please e-mail me.
