Conventions
The following are typographical conventions used in SuperCharts
User's Manual
Bold -
Bold is used to draw special attention to a word or phase
Italics
- Place holders for text you provide, for example
filename
. Also used to identify book titles. Italics is also used to identify key words or phrases.
[ ] - Square brackets indicate that the item is optional. Don't type in the brackets themselves. Also identifies when your selection is needed or when your selection determines what you see.
This typeface is used to identify names of menus, command buttons, option buttons, Easy Icons
, edit boxes, and list boxes.
There are 3 basic mouse functions used in SuperCharts
User's Manual:
Single click of the left mouse button. When a procedure states to click, assume this function.
Double click of the left mouse button in rapid succession. When required, you will be told explicitly.
Click and drag requires the user to highlight a series of text. This is accomplished by clicking and holding down the left mouse button at the beginning of the text and dragging it to the end of the text and then releasing the left mouse button.
The following conventions are used in SuperCharts
User's Manual
to identify certain function key actions to be taken by you
Keyboard keys appear as follows:
Key names separated by a + (plus sign) indicate that you hold down the first key, press the second key, and then release both keys. For example,
Key names separated by a - (dash sign) indicate a sequence of key strokes are needed. For example,
, indicates that after simultaneously pressing the
and
keys the
key must be pressed.
The following conventions are used in SuperCharts
User's Manual
to identify certain menu actions to be taken by you
Menu names appear in this typeface
Menu selections separated by a - (dash sign) indicate a sequence of mouse clicks are needed. For example, click
Page - Exit
, requires you to click the
menu and then click the
menu choice.
The following is the hierarchically structure used in SuperCharts
User's Manual:
You may also notice a definite hierarchical
ly structure throughout the manual. This is evidenced by the size of the section titles and the dividing lines preceding them. Major Headings, like chapter titles are preceded by a thick double line and have a type size of 24 points. Primary section titles are preceded by a relatively thick single line and have a type size of 14 points. Secondary section titles are preceded by a thin double line and have a type size of 13. Finally sub-titles of secondary section titles have are preceded by a thin single line and have a type size of 12.
Quick Answers to commonly asked questionsQ
Quick Answers to commonly asked questions
1. What number do I call if I have a problem with SuperCharts?
Technical Support for SuperCharts is available in 3 different forms:
Via Phone
(305) 270-0174
Via Fax
(305) 270-9650
Via BBS
(305) 270-8771
If I have a billing problem or wish to change any of my information (address, phone etc.) which number do I call?
Customer service can be reached in two different forms:
Phone (305) 270-1095
Via Fax (305) 270-
3. Where do I find my customer number?
Your customer number is located on the invoice supplied to you with your product shipment and looks similar to RESEOMEG00. If you accidentally discarded it, please call the customer service department and they will be glad to get it for you. You will need your customer number to receive technical support.
4. If I have historical daily data and want to use it with data I will be downloading from dial data what do I do?
The first thing you have to do is check to see that the symbol names you will be importing match the symbol names that dial data uses to download. If they do not match you will have to change the name of the symbol as you import each symbol into the DataManager.
The second step you must take is to import the data into the DataManager securities list. Please follow the instructions in your User's Manual in section 3 of the DataManager chapter.
Finally, after you have imported the data into the DataManager, you are ready to download data through dial data. Please check the User's Manual, DataManager chapter 12, section 1. You could download the data from dial data first but remember, any imported data that overlaps the dial data downloaded data will be overwritten.
5. If I want to download daily weekly and monthly data into the DataManager for different tests I want to run, what must I do?
Keep in mind that weekly bars can be build from daily data, and monthly bars can be build from both daily and weekly bars.
Since symbols carry the same name (no matter the time period) you can't maintain daily, weekly and monthly files of the same symbol in the same directory. Therefore, you must create different directories for the different time periods. You must also make two or three telephone calls to complete the download for the different time periods. For example :
Daily files under C:\DDData\Daily
Weekly files under C:\DDData\Weekly
Monthly files under C:\DDData\Monthly
6. I have another Omega Research product and wanted to use that data in SuperCharts. How can I do that?
This depends on the type of data it is. As of 12/93 Daily data can be exporte
d from the other Omega product into an ASCII file and either read directly into the SuperCharts charting application or imported into the DataManager. As of 12/93 Intra-day collected data can only be exported into an ASCII file and then read directly into the SuperCharts charting application.
7. How do I set up SuperCharts for color printing?
SuperCharts is installed via Windows. If you have already set up your printer under Windows during the Windows install, SuperCharts reads those drivers and prints through them. To print in color with SuperCharts, simply click the Color Printing check box that is displayed in the "Print" dialog box after click Page, Print.
8. Are those zero's or the letter O in my serial number?
All Omega Research products carry zero's in serial numbers or passwords.
9. What do I do if the symbols I want to download are not in the Master Universe list?
If the symbols you want to download are not in the Master Universe list you can add them to your download list in one of two ways.
Add all the symbols to your master universe list first, following the instructions in the DataManager chapter 12, section 3. Then add the symbols to the securities list through the group add or by adding one symbol at a time. Please see the section 1 of the DataManager chapter.
Add the symbols you want to add to your list one by one in the Add Securities dialog box. The default in the master universe for that security type is used when adding symbols to the security list. As you add symbols to the securities list they are automatically added to the Master Universe list.
I received four disks and only needed three for the installation, why?
First time installers of SuperCharts will need all four disks. When installing as an update, the demo and sample data files are not installed, therefore not needing a forth disk.
How can I get easy language support on SuperCharts?
If you are writing a system or indicator and need a term defined or any mechanical questions answered regarding how to apply, access or find any information our technicians would be happy to help you. However, if you require assistance in writing any analysis tool, please fax it to the Technical Support Dept./Custom System Writing Dept. and they will get back to you within 10 days with an estimate on time and cost.
Once I pay for SuperCharts do I have any other payments to make to Omega Research?
Once you pay for SuperCharts the product is yours and you no longer owe us any money. If you are using the downloader with dial data, you will need to pay them for the downloading cost incurred every month. If there is an update of SuperCharts, you will be alerted by letter on how to order and the cost involved.
Macro Language6
Macro Language
There are many different executable commands in the Charting module, and several different ways of performing the same command. There are four different methods of performing the same commands: the Menu Method, the Easy Icon Method, the Hot Key Method and the Macro Language Method.
The Menu Method utilizes the Windows pull-down menu choices to execute the command. The Easy Icon Method uses the Easy Icons to execute the command. The Hot Key method is available for only the most commonly used commands. The Hot Key method assigns the command to a Function Key. For example to start the Charting Module or switch to the Charv
ting Module the
function key is your Hot Key. Some commands may only be available using certain methods, while others can be executed using the method of your choice.
The Macro Language Method allows you to type in a keyword to execute a given command. Many of the Macro Language commands are unique to that method, meaning they can only be performed using the Macro Language. For a complete listing of Macro Language commands please see Appendix D in the back of the SuperCharts
User's Manual.
To execute a Macro Language command:
Look at the title bar on the SuperCharts
Main Menu.
From the SuperCharts
Main Menu, type in the macro command and any required inputs.
Notice the title bar on the screen reflects your keyboard input.
Press the
key to start the command.
